IOS7 Problem: Music App: Shuffle Through 1 Genre

The shuffle all is still there for Genres. I am playing it on my iPad 3rd Gen. Here are the instructions I gave to someone else. I had the issue of not being able to "Play All" in Genres.

After you select Genre and then the genre you want, look at the top where it says Repeat, Create and Shuffle.

Turn Repeat off. Then choose a song, go into Now Playing and turn off Repeat again (repeat off, repeat artist, repeat song) . Then go back to Genres, then re-choose the Genre. Now you can play all and Shuffle all.

That's how I was able to get mine to work. I don't understand why there are so may steps to do one simple function of play all. Perhaps in the update this will get fixed.

Bttrfly29 - Sorry, but I don't see those options at all on my iPhone or iPad Mini. I choose Genres, my genre of choice, and at the very very top there "Genres, My Genre of Choice, Now Playing" and if I scroll to show the top of the list, I have "search". Underneath I have a list of all the albums in that genre, but not the songs. If I select an album and then hit a song, I'll see what you described, but at the bottom of the screen, not the top. And that only allows for shuffling in that album only.

So I don't know how you're seeing something that nobody else is unless you're talking about shuffling inside a playlist which is the easiest way to do this now.

@Bttrfly29 Sorry I don't see those options either, not on my iPhone or iPad.

There are two ways I have found to shuffle all songs in a genre. The first is is to ask Siri. I can't do this on my iPhone 4, however, as it doesn't have Siri and even with Siri it's hit and miss especially if words are misspelled e.g. old skool hip hop. The other way is to use the search in the music app to find the genre, then select the genre from the search results, then select 'shuffle all songs'. It's is a totally weird way to shuffle a genre but it does work. Hopefully Apple will fix this in an update and bring back the old ‘Genre’ > ‘All Artists’ > ‘All Songs’ option.

Hi Anthony, my original post was for iPAD users only not iPhone or IPad mini. My apologies if I confused anyone.😊 I was trying to find help for iPhone users but alas, all my friends very smartly delayed their upgrades. Sigh. Short of me going into the Apple to ask about a feature on a phone I do not personally own, I am out of answer. 😟

It's so weird but it seems that iPad mini would have the same option as iPad. I can't believe how Apple has made this difficult when their products used to be so user friendly. Sigh...

Hey rollthebeats, which iPAD do you have? I have 3rd Gen. Not a mini. I am not sure how the mini looks in terms of the music but I did post screen captures on my original post.

iPhone SOLUTION (iOS7)

[1] Launch Music App

[2] Select "Songs" (lower right)

[3] Enter desired "genre name" in search box and search

[4] Scroll to matching "Genres" section and select desired genre

[5] Scroll up and select "Shuffle All Songs"

I am missing whole albums though within each genre, even when using the workaround solution of typing the genre name into the search box. Is anyone else experiencing this problem as well?

Hey, I know its a pain in the butt. BUT! If you whip Siri out of the bottle, be like, "Shuffle Alternative Music" ask her politely haha She does it! She sadly repeats rap music too :/

The Siri work around no longer works on my iPhone 5S since I updated to IOS 7.0.3 (11B511). It was never perfect because Siri could not make sense of odd spellings such as 'Old Skool Hip Hop' and even when spellings were normal it was hit and miss. Now it doesn't work at all. Generally it throws up no results or shuffles a similar sounding artist or album.

Bizarrely the Siri work around still works on my iPad 3 even though that too has been updated to IOS 7.0.3 (11B511), the music libraries on both devices are identical and the instructions I give to Siri are identical.

Thankfully the other work around (search for genre in the music app) does still work but after selecting the genre in the search results it takes a very long time to get the full listing of songs even on an iPhone 5S 64GB.

I just wish Apple would put back the old way i.e. 'All Artists > All Songs > Shuffle', it worked perfectly and there was no logical reason to remove it. Now we have to put up with these lame work arounds. I have been a long time supporter of Apple but this is one of the reasons I'm now considering switching to Andriod.

If you have a device with Siri just say, "Play (genre) music." i.e. "Play classical music." Siri will respond with, "Playing (genre) music, shuffled." Pretty easy, but it would be nice to still have the menu option.

Thanks for the help! On my 5s, I've been asking Siri to shuffle a genre, but my Siri is non existent on my 2nd gen Ipad.

+1. I have an iphone 4 so I don't have Siri. Apple should fix this immediately.

iOS 7.0.4 released today but still no fix for this problem. I'm beggining to suspect that Apple have removed the shuffle genre option on purpose. Why they would want to do that I have no idea but we've now had two or three updates to iOS7 and still no sign of a fix. If Apple don't fix this then I can safely say that my next phone will be Andriod..

++1 The feature to shuffle within a specific genre or displayed list should be included for the next software update.

This is how I listen to music, with the odd time just focusing on one artists. Specially when driving, I like to switch between genre's and there needs to be a quick way to do this at a stop light.

It will be a hassle to create lists that include just a specific genre, it also seems like an unnecessary work around, as the feature existed and exists for specific. Funny how apple keeps adding processing power, but removing features.
