I have this problem too, my iPad ok but iPhone 5 just says waiting for activation and is the same for FaceTime.
Wondered if there'd be a **** up with this upgrade.
Everything works fine on my iphone 5, but my iPad3 can neither log into iMessage nor FaceTime and other apps keep going into an infinite loop, telling me to hook the iPad to iTune, hence, locking up the iPad.
Apple products are just supposed to work. This is the main advantage of tightly controlled vertically integrated product lines. I can even accept problems with third party Apps since Apple does not have full control of them.
However there is no excuse for iMessage and FaceTime which Apple has complete control. The irony is that Skype App works perfectly on my iPad 3.
iOS has only a dozen devices to worry about and they are all from Apple and they can't get this right. This gives me new appreciation of MicroSoft. After all, they have to deal with so many products from so many different companies.
Ios7 if your having a problem signing in to iMessage and FaceTime go to
Settings> general> date and time> adjust date and time to your location (country)> got to iMessage and sign in then sign in to FaceTime
I upgraded both an iPhone5 and iPad2 ... The iPad2 worked fine, but the iPhone5 experienced the iMessage/FaceTime issue. I tried all the options in this thread. None of them worked until I finally did a restore from iCloud, which did work.
It is frustrating having to waste a day and a half of work fighting with this problem, especially since it appeared in the IOS 7 beta.
Hi All,
It's frustrating as ****, but I found even after a full restore trying to sign in to iMessage and FaceTime would not work for me over cellular.
After restoring my back up I switched both iMessage and FaceTime, connected to my wifi, then switched iMessage back on and it prompted me for my Apple ID which worked. I then switched on FaceTime and the prompt popped up for that too.
It seems that there is a massive problem with the "Use my Apple ID" screen that you can get to. My advice would be to try and get that prompt up for iMessage or FaceTime... I understand this won't work for everyone as the issue seems to have many different strands to it, but it's worth a shot hey?
I also did the reset and restore, worked instantly.
Hi guys !!
I solved the problem. Give a Master reset in the iPhone. And after restoure the backup for iclound.
Imensage and facetime working
I had this problem for over 24 hours on my iPhone 4S so I finally used this link that someone posted earlier and it honesetly worked. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4268
A little annoying because I have to redownload apps, but resetting the network, restarting my phone, etc just wasn't working.
If you restore your iphone do your texts and emails etc get erased????
minehas been saying the exact same thing. all my friends phone is fine but not mine.
This fixed the issue!
Only pain was having to re-download all of my apps; but everything else is working it seems.
Resetting settings, restoring my iPhone, deactivating with redsn0w and reactivating... Nothing helped!
For those of us unlucky to have tried everything to no avail, maybe it's a carrier issue with how they contact Apple's activation servers. From what I understand when you activate with a phone number it sends an SMS to an Apple server which may be international or local depending on your carrier. Maybe in iOS 7 Apple have changed these and the settings haven't been changed in the backend.
I can "verify" my email address easily and I can send iMessages from there, but it still says "waiting for activation" which might refer to the phone number.
Obviously if you haven't had to disable iMessage you wouldn't have had the problem of trying to reactivate, but maybe some updates deactivated iMessage while others didn't. BTW I'm on Telstra in Australia. They had a problem like this last year but was fixed after a week. Anyone else on Telstra?
I'm on O2 UK... Every time I try to activate imessage/facetime, a text message arrives from the same UK number with some code in it...
Im with Telstra as well and a fair few other of my friends have the same problem.
Thanks! It works now!
I had this problem, my iTunes was not up to date and that is why my iMessage and Facetime was not activating with the update.
