Trust this Computer?

I installed iOS 7 this morning, and now with every restart of my iPad - if it is plugged into my iMac - I am asked "Trust This Computer?" I restarted 3 times, and was asked each time. Is this something that we will see every time we sync our tablets and phones?

Read 10 pages of community chatter - tried everything I could. Looks like many PC users have a fix for this problem but I haven't seen anything specific for the Mac.

Last night, I installed the latest upgrade 7.1 my iPhone 5. When I connect to my main laptop (Mac Book Pro, Intel Core 2 Duo processor and running on OSX 10.9.2), I'm asked if I want "Trust This Computer?". I select TRUST, wait about 30 seconds and it asks again. I'm stuck in a loop.

I'm using the offical iPhone cable, rebooted my phone and my laptop, reset my iPhone settings, reinstalled iTunes on the laptop, have plenty of space on my computer & iPhone and still no success.

To make matters more frustrating ....as a test, I pulled out my second laptop (another Mac Book Pro), which I travel with, and it trusted that device so I guess the issue is a laptop issue.

@Patukka

Having the same problem. All of the forums results and online posts have been related to Window's issues, Ubuntu and other non-mac specific issues.

I updated to 7.1 and now everytime I connect to my mac (with an approved 32pin cable plus apple lightning connection) I get the message and get stuck in the same cycle.

(And **** *** Apple, considering I've practically been a showroom for your company for the past 30 years, I should be able to use whatever charging cables I want to use!)

Hope we can see a 7.1.1 that addresses this?

Sadly people are still taking the wrong view of this. Most replies here are how to fix Windows, or Ubuntu or whatever. My issue was with my rental car.. duhh.. pretty frickin hard to upgrade itunes or the OS there... the OBVIOUS (to anyone with any logical sense) is that this is a bug in IOS7...

my iPhone 4s is about on its last legs and ios7 seems to get dumber with each update. this will certainly be my last apple phone.

I’m pretty sure everyone updated they’re phone to 7.1 and they’re iTunes to 11.1.5… and probably plugged their device in the USB port. Then hit “trust this computer”. And STILL couldn’t find it. OR, even uninstalled iTunes a zillion times and then tried a new cord.. I was just playing around with my computer and found the solution for Windows 8 users. And possibly Windows 7 users. For Mac users: try something similar..

  1. Plug your device in and do the usual “Trust This Computer” ******** on your device..
  2. Hit START on your computer..
  3. Type in PC SETTINGS..
  4. Click PC AND DEVICES..
  5. Click DEVICES..
  6. Under OTHER DEVICES, click “Apple IPhone/IPad/IPod”..
  7. Click REMOVE DEVICE..
  8. Take the USB out.. Then plug it back in..
  9. WALLAH..

I can't believe that I'm saying this but Windows users seem to have a solution, meanwhile I'm still seeking a solution for Mac users. I've come across a "solution" to delete the locked files in /var/db/lockdown folder, which apparently has worked for some users who posted on another thread but unfortunately, that solution did not work for me in that the files in that folder did not unlock so I could not determine if deleting those files would allow me to connect my iphone to my Mac.

If you're not sure what you're doing using the command terminal, you may just want to call an Apple rep!

1) open terminal on your Mac

2) cut and past this command in quotes exactly as it is "sudo chflags -R nouchg /var/db/lockdown"

3) enter your password to verfiy (there is a warning message). Note that you won't see any letters appear when you enter your password. Just hit enter once you've typed it.

3) now go back and follow the directions on the lockdown page:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5335?viewlocale=en_US

4) once the plist files are in the trash restart your computer and try connecting your phone.

I stand corrected! This MAC solution worked!! <insert happy dance>

A lightbulb went off in my head as I turned my attention away from this and I wondered if the Terminal application in Macintosh HD was the same as opening the Terminal application in my user profile. It turns out that was where to find the solution to unlocking the plist files. I wasn't able to unlock the files using the Macintosh HD application but was able to using the user profile application.

Once those files were gone, success with the phone and the laptop trusting each other!

Case closed. I appreciate everyone's help here!
