Q: iOS 7 forgot restrictions passcode

I have updated to iOS 7.  My location services have been disabled and findmyiphone is turned on but with restricted access.  However I have forgotten my restrictions pass code so am unable to turn on location services.  If I try and restore iphone via iTunes it tells me I have to turn off findmyiphone first.  But I can't do this because I have forgotten this restriction passcode.

Totally stuck now.  Seems there is no way to reset my phone.

Any ideas?

I am in the same boat.  For some reason the passcode I have used since owning this phone and re-entered today when upgrading no longer will unlock the phone.  I am stuck also.  Same error message same issues.

    I did this also.

think i found a solution but you must know your apple ID and PW.

    1. sign into icloud.com

    2. once you are signed in click on "find my iphone" tab

    3. click "all devices" on top of the page

    4. click on the device you lost your passcode to.

    5. once you do a couple of choices will come up "play sound" "lost mode" and "erase iphone"

click on the erase iphone. and it will begin to whip out your iphone.

    6. once i was done i connected it back into my itunes and restored from my last backup. i was then

able to get into my phone and reset my passcode. :-)

hope this helps. i was so lost i thought i messed up big time lol.

I'm in the same scenario & it's massively frustrating !

Didn't toggle 'Location Services On' during the iOS7 install and have forgotten my Restrictions PassCode.

Find My iPhone now doesn't show my location & all Location Services are off - argh !

On my 13th attempt at guessing the PassCode and having to wait 60 mins between each entry now. Not frustrating at all, much !!

StephRi0s ... is your solution for the PassCode to unlock the phone, or the one for Restrictions ?

Pretty sure it's the Unlock Phone code as the Restrictions Code is built into the backup ... so on a RestoreFrom Backup - it's still there. Anyone else think this ?

    Other thoughts / help ? Please !

    Redski,

You are correct - the restrictions password is built in to the backup.

Place the phone in recovery mode and restore from your last backup.  This will allow you to reset the passcode.  Here are the recovery mode instructions:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808.

The Restrictions PassCode is built into the BackUp - so this will not work, will it ?

This is the same problem I am having. I have a passcode on my phone since before updating to iOS7. Not sure why that isn't working now. Will have wait to get home from work before I can restore it. But if the passcode if built into the backup, how am I sure that the restore will work?

    to be clear ...

    1. PassCode to unlock your phone from locked HomeScreen will be resolved by restoring from backup.

    2. Restrictions PassCode, under Settings > General > Restrictions will NOT be resolved by restoring from backup, as the Restrictions PassCode is built into the backup.

Any help bypassing / re-setting the Restrictions PassCode under iOS7 would be hugely appreciated.

    Thanks

My bad - the restrictions passcode would most likely be built in the back up. But that should not cause any problems as that is how you have set up your device, for example, to restict children using in app purchases. That should remain the same. You may need to do a complete wipe and start again in order to remove the restrictions passcode.

No worries at all mshakir - thanks for the response.

Unfortuantely, it does however cause an issue.

Essentially, this is because I used Restrictions to prevent changes to Location Services - the reason for that being if I lost my iPhone or it was stolen, it would prevent the culprit from very simply turning off Location Services and making Find My iPhone completely useless for me to track / trace it !

So, now I'm in a position where I didn't toggle Location Services 'on' in the iOS7 install process in the phone boot up, and I have forgotten the restrictions passcode !

Ultimately meaning now none of my Location Services are switched on - so I need a solution !

    Hope that makes sense.

    Redski,

I think your explanantion of why restrictions was password enabled may be true for others too.

Bottom line is, if you cannot remember your RESTRICTIONS password, when you wipe the iPhone and connect to iTunes, you will need to set the iPhone up as a new device, and NOT restore from a backup.

However, (and this has just occured to me), your contacts and iCloud-based content should still be available if you use the same Apple ID when setting up. Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks StuartH ... appreciate the response.

Does anyone know if it's possible to open the BackUp File via a File Editor on the Mac and edit it, to overwrite the existing Restrictions Passcode, or disable it, and then reinstall from back-up ?

I know this was possible for iOS6, but not sure if that loophole has been closed in iOS7 ...

    Cheers

As it is hard for me to believe we have all "forgotten" our passcodes - I believe this to be a "bug" in the new OS...patiently awaiting the first software update - frustrating to say the least knowing that I never set a restrictions passcode for any of my devices!
