iOS 7 forgot restrictions passcode

I have updated to iOS 7. My location services have been disabled and findmyiphone is turned on but with restricted access. However I have forgotten my restrictions pass code so am unable to turn on location services. If I try and restore iphone via iTunes it tells me I have to turn off findmyiphone first. But I can't do this because I have forgotten this restriction passcode.

Totally stuck now. Seems there is no way to reset my phone.

Any ideas?

I didn't read all the replies so I don't know if this has been solved or not.

You can just set the iPhone into Recovery and restore from there; iTunes won't ask for any password, be them the Restrictions passcode, the general passcode and/or the Activation Lock (Apple ID) password.

Activation Lock will still be active, it'll just not be required to do the Restore by iTunes — Activation Lock sort of resides on the activation servers not so much in the phone itself.

You can also go the iCloud route and just remotely restore the phone from icloud.com/find, as long a it's not been jailbroken it should go normal.

Don't restore a backup since they reset Restrictions settings too. I once restored an old iPhone for a friend but it had all sorts of locks on it and it wouldn't complete the restore so I interrupted the restore by just unplugging the cable ruining its to give complete information to iTunes and just then I did complete the restore — this iPhone also didn't have a working power button so entering DFU wasn't an option.

Restarting the phone can be achieved under the Accessibility settings.

One thig to add... (this worked great btw). I tried for hours to get my iPad to restore with the edited information, but it would not transfer my new info. I finally tried this and it worked! -- After you edit the info in iBackupBot, you save it in the upper left corner, then you hit "restore" from this software, NOT in iTunes. You do need you iPad/ iPhone connected to iTunes, but the way it transfers is from the software. Once it rebooted my restrictios page was back to "0" attempts and i entered "1234" and was back in business! Thanks for this tip!! 🙂

I never installed a restricted password. But I inadvertently turned the restrictrd lock on without using a password.

Then I could not turn it off without a password I never set up.

I tried my current screen lock password and it wasn't accepted.

I discovered through trials of a few password, that the restricted password is the same as screen password that was active at the moment IOS7 was installed.

I changed mine after IOS7 and promply forgot the old one.

After several tries, success.

The restricted password screen was unlock with my old IOS6 screen password.

Now does anyone know how to change the restricted password?

It seems like somewhere between 7.0 and 7.0.4, they introduced a new resource (located in in the same folder as springboard.plist) called com.apple.restrictionspassword.plist. This holds a key with encrypted values and the OS now seems to ignore the entry in springboard.plist (and deleting the restrictedpassword.plist resource doesn't seem to do the trick either).

I put a restriction code on another iphone to see if I copied these over to the original one with the lock, the key would also be transfered. And it seems to work!

Making the following changes (in bold) to the restrictedpassword.plist changed my key to 1234:

...

<dict>

<key>RestrictionsPasswordKey</key>

<data>

IxxWEBikzuZi33zUqCBnAcWAavk=

</data>

<key>RestrictionsPasswordSalt</key>

<data>

aSbUXg==

</data>

</dict>

Hope this helps and good luck.
