Stuck in Recovery Mode

Hi!

I downloaded iOS7 via a Wi-Fi network earlier today, and I've been waiting to install it until recently. However, I was having a couple errors when I tried installing it, so I turned it off and back on again, and it started installing just fine.

However, after a while, the iPhone 4 went into recovery mode (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808) and I attempted to restore it on iTunes 11.1. The problem is that when the "iPhone Software Update" file finishes downloading, iTunes gives me the notification that my "iPhone is in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes." all over again.

I've repeated this process three times now. If anyone could give any assistance it'd be most helpful.

Thanks!

I recently tried to update to iOS 6.1.4 but couldnt because of error 3014, now that ios 7 is out i thought this problem would go. I've updated my computer, my itunes and keep getting this error, I also tried changing my hosts but that wasnt successful. Then tried putting my phone in DFU mode to make my computer do an automatic restore, but it still does error 3014 or 4014, now im stuck in DFU mode just like you and cant use it, ivev also tried tinyumbrella but wont work for me

So you're talking about an iPhone 5 ,correct? If so, have you tried taking it out of DFU mode? To do so, just hold the home button and the power button at the same time until the Apple logo appears and then you can release both buttons. Hopefully, you will see the "Connect to iTunes" logo again, and then TinyUmbrella should work. Or are you saying you cannot get it out of DFU mode?

I have an iPad 4. Two days ago IOS asked if I wanted to install it and I foolishly said OK. My iPad is frozen on the connect to iTunes screen. When I saw your TinyUmbrella post I was overjoyed. I've installed it and it's sitting on my laptop's desktop but doesn't seem to operate as you described.

I pull up iTunes and connect to the store. Then I click onto the Power and Home buttons at the same time unril myfingers go numb but TinyU doesn't get involved at all.

If I click on TinyU it goes through a routine very fast - something about Loading and then Reticulating Splines. Then it goes back to sleep and leaves me with an Umbrella log.

Am I doing something wrong?

When you made the backup, you may have told it to encrypt the backup.

Therefore I used the normal iTunes backup and restore found under the Summary tab in iTunes. If your data is still on the other phone, back it up again with iTunes. To use iTunes you have to start it, connect your phone to the computer with a cable, then select the iPhone button near the top right corner of the screen. Be sure not to check the encrypt button. You can recover iPhone data to factory settings successfully.

I had a similar experience. To resolve it I restored the phone back to IOS6 from iTunes, then installed the GM of IOS7. Once I did this, the phone saw my iCloud backup from yesterday morning and restored everything.

Not sure if it was the best route, but it worked for me. If it fails on the first try just follow the steps.

I’m posting this comment because I have been in this situation before, and because this forum helped me in my frustration times for over 12 hours, trust me when i say i have had tried everything from DFU mode to downloading tinyumbrella and redsnow but all of that simply did not work, i hate to be doom and gloom but this what really happened to me, after 12 hours of frustration my iphone suddenly decided to be recognized by iTunes and started to boot by itself i genuinely don’t know how but it did, when it came back again it seems that iTunes did not update to IOS 7.0.4 so i did the update via OTA and started eating and smiling again.

So I'm not sure if this the right area to post this in but I use my iPhone to tether through USB to my desktop. ITunes automatically updated the iPhone software and since it then had no internet connection was stuck in recovery mode. Not noticing I had unplugged it tocheck my messages and now when I plug it back in iTunes does not recognize my iPhone and I get iTunes could not connect the iPhone software update since I have no connection. Is there anyway I'm not screw

ed?

I have mamaged to get my iPhone out of recovery mode, without any loss of data.

I tried to update my phone to iOS 7.0.4 and got the dreaded iTunes and USB connecton sign, which meant stuck in recovery mode. iTunes was asking to restore the iPhone, meaning loosing all the data which was not backed up.

I used a free trail tool named iPhone Data Recovery, that does not have to register, just proceed straith to free trail and click, it restored my phone back to its original state and out of the dread recovery mode. It also apply to the iPhones that stuck on recovery mode after jailbreak iOS 7.

I hope this helps.

I learn a way from article "How to get an iPhone out of Recovery Mode":
http://tinyurl.com/mfv32cv

Press down the Home and Power buttons on your iPhone until it shuts off.
Connect it to your computer with the USB cable.
Press and hold down the Home button.
Hold it down until iTunes says your device is entering recovery mode.
Now you should be able to Restore using iTunes.

Try reinstalling iTunes on the computer and trying again. Otherwise make an appointment at the Apple Store Genius Bar. They might help you if it just expired. I know some people who have experiences of them being lenient if it expired very recently so get there ASAP.

I posted it in some other similar threads today and have had three people reply that it worked for them too, and nobody so far saying it hasn't worked with iPhone Data Recovery. And yes, everything was still on my iPad; contacts, web bookmarks, all photos, nothing was changed. It just didn't update to iOS 7. After I got it working again I just used Wi-Fi and upgraded to iOS 7 over the air with no problems, using it as I type this. If you're still stuck, trying this will not endanger anything at all on your device. Worth a try at least, and I'm guessing it'll work for you to recover lost data of iPhone stuck in recovery mode.

Good luck!

In fact, I follow the guides and get my iPhone 5 out of recovery mode. It also helps me to recover some data back. I think it works.
