Can't Remove Old ICloud Account

Hey guys,

A year ago or so I updated my apple ID as the old one was tied to an old email address that I didn't want to use. I updated the details and was able to change things like the apple store settings but was unable to change my iCloud settings.

When I updated to IOS 7, it wanted to use my old ID for ICloud so I skipped that step (there was no other option to change it)

I tried to remove the old ICloud account to create a new one but it asks for a password and I can't remember it. So...I went online and clicked "forgot passord" then it successfully emailed the reset instructions except it sent the instructions to some other email address that I don't use. It's all very frustrating. How do I delete the old ICloud?

Thanks again for all your help in advance

I've tried this but when I go to delete the icloud account with the old email, it asks for that password, which I don't have. This is driving me insane.

Oooooooh myyyyyy goooddddnesssss... FINALLY! I've literally been wrestling with this for 6 months! THANK YOU randers4!!! Such a simple solution. I was losing my mind trying to remember a password for an email that hasn't existed since 2010 so I could delete the outdated icloud account. (BIG SIGH...) It ended up it was asking for my current password. 🙂

Very happy now...

Hi:

iOS 8, i attempted your fix on the same issue i am having with iphone 5

i accidentally backed it up to a previous time of 2 years ago when i was using an older e-mail address

I don't remember the password and cannot access the icloud account to delete

i tried your work around, changing the email address, and then deleting the account. However, the account would not delete my old icloud email address because it was waiting for me to verify the older email address (which i could not because it no longer exists).

Apple support could not help me because it asked me an old security question (from 2+ years ago) and I answered it incorrectly.

I am not sure how to remove this old icloud account and get my new icloud account over to my new phone. very frustated

Worked for me!!
I was using an old AOL account, and it got hacked so many times that I decided to delete it.
When i downloaded ios 8.02, it froze my ipad2.

I googled the issue and it said to hook it up to the latest iTunes version on my laptop.

I did, but it restored my ipad to the last time it was backed up which was in 2011 - still had the old AOL address..

Apple kept asking me for the icloud address at aol (which i don;t have access to anymore) and that's how i got to this page...

my only note is that going back to settings on my ipad didn't let me delete the old aol account, just asked me to log out and then i logged back in with the new email.

Thanks so much for your help!!!

oh, and when you figure out how to get rid of the tips and the health and the iBooks app i don't want, let me know..

I am having similar problem.

I updated ipad to ios 8.0.1 after its update it prompted me for a passcode (which I hadn't set up so didn't know). I then connected ipad to iTunes and set up a system restore. Successful - BUT then I went bk to ipad and it said an apple ID was currently linked to the ipad (one that I didn't know, now we think it could be one I set up for my partner when we bought the ipad but have never used it since then so do not know the ID or password). We have always used my apple ID in the app store to purchase apps so never have had any need for this one. I try password reset by guessing what the ID is (we have it down to 2 possibles) but the email authentication does not come to mine or my partners email address. I then try the security question option but it says my DOB is wrong.

I have tried to change the email address in my apple account like suggested in this thread to the one we think the ipad is asking for but it wont take it, says it cant be an apple domain.

I have contacted apple support who say because I cannot answer my security question I am basically in possession of an expensive paper weight. They say I have turned on the "find my iphone" app so this is why I am being prompted for the unknown icloud address but I have never used this app. So frustrated as all was well until stupid IOS update .

DRAMAAAA!

Ok I tried them all..no wayyy anything worked. So I contacted Apple and after giving the serie num of my Ipad + a copy of the payment invoice fromthe shop where I bought my ipad, they sent me an email confirming me that my ipad has been "freed" . So I was soo happy and turmed on my ipad ..but realized that nothing has changed.

I just emailed back today asking them to review the email and problem..

My only doubt is that one of the Numers ( on the iapd box ) is not a 5 but an S..but it really looks like a 5!!

Do you perhaps know if they use both numner 5 and lettter S?

Or..is it just that I have to wait for another email or more days?

My pics are still there so I think they didn't proceed to activate the operation yet..?

Any advice? I do have a Case Num.

Thanks Carlotta
