iOS 7 problem with Siri and the microphone

I have an iPhone 5, AT&T, 64GB, updated to iOS 7.

Siri works with Raise to speak, and with headphones with microphones, but NOT if I just press the Home button like it's supposed to do.

I've also noticed that the Speaker function in calls doesn't not work either. I can hear the caller but the caller cannot hear me. I've restored 3 times to factory settings and setup as new iPhone and no change. Anybody with the same problem? Any ideas besides going to the Genius Bar? Thank you.

Ok, I have this issue as well, same mic works in everything but Siri, dictation and front video recording/FaceTime I'm on iOS 8 and still the same issue, noticed it when updated to 7.1

What I did found out, after making tests, is that the mic does work if I yelled at it, not sure if it got dirty but speaking loud did the trick, just annoying because it has to be really loud.

Read that may be software issue making mic listen really low

I will try to clean the front mic

I'm guessing Siri works after 10-15 seconds cuz it uses other mic instead of front after realizing it's not picking up any audio

Hopefully it's soft because out of warranty as well

FIXED (For Me)

I've had this problem on two phones now. After trying most of the fixes in this thread including resetting and restoring and replacing the hardware microphone it just magically started working one day.

On the second phone I've been fussing with it for about two hours now, I hadn't gotten to the restore yet. I had the message app open to do voice dictation when I accidentally dropped the phone, about four inches, onto my desk. The sound wave icon immediately started registering sounds when it was completely flat before. Works fine now.

Now I'm not telling people to go drop their phones on the ground but maybe give it a good shake or slap with your hand, can't hurt. Hope it works for you.

FIXED!

I just had this problem and it's not a software issue, it's a hardware issue. The mic at the ear piece is what Siri, facetime and front facing camera uses for sound.

You can test it yourself. Try filming with the front facing camera and test for voice. Then try it out for facetime. That same mic will not work for Siri.

Replaced my mic with a new one and everything was fixed.

Fixed!!!

I had the same problem with Siri not hearing me and the front camera would not record any sound. I fixed this problem by replacing the front microphone/camera/proximity sensor assembly. It took only 15min of work and $7 for the assembly to purchase from e-bay and delivered to my home. All works fine now.

Suggest you do the same.

I had the same peculiar problem Speakerphone mic and siri didn't work, but other voice recorder and related stuff did. I just fixed it.

I had replaced my glass face a few weeks ago so I was familiar with taking it apart. I did it again, now unattaching the little plugin connectors, then replugging them back in and IT WORKS!!!! (at least for now).

It's weird because it would make sense that it was a software problem, but maybe there is a specific speaker designated to siri? Or perhaps having Siri's face taken off confused her software enough to remind her how to hear again.

Hope this helps.
