Thanks to everybody's suggestions. The solution is to turn on " show all" music downloaded, then download the music from the cloud, then turn off "show all" music and delete songs as necessary. I believe my problem had to do with cached songs combined with home sharing which caused music to show up on my son's iPod (shared account), but they weren't actually downloaded. Hope this helps.

Hey everyone,

In fact the "right" answer seems to come from f1arp72. It has to do with songs streamed (so in cache) but not downloaded. They are the ones which one is not able to delete.

I thought that Apple would earlier or later allow to stream music from teh music library without any traces or space on iPhone/iPod/iPad used. Any thoughts on this?

I actually really like that all of my purchased songs are available. What I don't like is songs I deleted a long time ago, are part of them. I deleted them from my purchased songs a long time ago. They were songs, I got from those Starbucks promotions. I don't like I can't get rid of them. They show up on my phone, but not my computer. Apple really needs to come up with a fix for this. I don't want to hit shuffle and have these songs play. I find the songs irritating.

You SHOULD have the ability to delete any song at ANY time from the phone or secondary device. Your computer or pad should be the primary device with a master list and be able to have it designated so.

This is so foolish and frustrating. It shouldn't be a multi-step process!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enough with the complex sync BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You delete a track by swiping left to right. To delete an album or artist follow my instructions below. It is real easy.

Once the device shows up in iTunes, Click on the Device > In the Menu Bar (top) select Music > You check Artist or Albums and add delete just like you did before. Hit Sync and you are good to go.

There are so many choices once you are in the Music (tab) of iTunes.

I had the same issue. What I did to fix it was to reenable "Show All Music" in Settings. Then redownload any song. You will then be able to swipe right to left and delete any song. You can then disable "Show All Music" and the swipe to delete will still work. Hope that helps everyone. This one really bothered me before.

I can confirm, with unflinching certainty, that this method does not work in every instance.

To be sure, I have followed these steps several times to remove one particular song. Just one. It is the only song that has suddenly appeared in my Music app without explanation. I followed these steps several times, and after every attempt, it forces itself back into my Music app.

Further, I have gone through "Usage" in Settings and deleted all my music, hoping that the process would eliminate all downloaded, cached, or otherwise present music. It successfully removed everything, but then, just a few minutes later, my old friend was back, this time as the one and only song in Music.

I am beyond frustration. I will attempt, later tonight, to eliminate any cached or downloaded music via clean wipe of my iPhone, after I backup my device. But I'm at a point where I feel even worse about Music than I did Maps when it debuted.
