My iphone 5 updated to ios 7 and the new camera app no longer works. Sometimes I can get the front camera to
Show on the app. But the rear camera just shows black. And it won't switch bewtween the two cameras at all

iPhone 5, iOS 7, Front camera works. No video.
Double click the Home button, Flip up on ALL your open apps to close them.
Restart your phone by holding Wake/Sleep button + Home button for 15 seconds until you see the Apple logo. This resets the device-without deleting anything. They try the camera. Report back.
I'm having this problem too.
The above does not help.
I think it's one of the apps that is making this happen.
I tried the hard reset no difference.
I had the same issue, and resolved it by going to the camera app, press the lock button until the shutdown button appears, then press home + lock button to reset (until the apple appears).
I tried this too, and still nothing. It's really weird half the time I can get the front facing
Camera to work, but not the back at all. It's like when I switch cameras it freezes the app it's starts acting really slow.
I got the same problem with my iphone 5 rear camera and tried the solutions suggested here but it did not work.
The camera application which came with ios7 is frozen as soon as it opens. I does not take photos or switch between cameras.
I have been able to use the front camera with Snapseed, QR reader . however no application is able to open my rear camera.
I am not sure but it can related with the application updates either ios7 or the camera applications already installed on our iphone. Uninstalling those apps which has access to camera and rebooting may solve the problem. This is just an idea !
I gave up. In the end, I went to exchange a new set, it's working fine now.....
Think it's really a hardware problem.
I did by accedent something that worked to me. I found out there is a clicking sound comes from the camera area at the top of the device, i shook the device hard hearing that sound repeatedly coming from the device. after that i did a hard reset, then it worked jus fine.
Thanks, @KramerMcBareth this worked for me - at least it unlocked it immediately. May happen again as it has been intermittent before but at least I now have an unlock tip. It has to be related to iOS7 updates and apps. Thanks again!! Crazy.
WORKAROUND FOUND ! Download and install "Awesome Camera" app and take a picture with that app. After 1-2 seconds of standby, it will work. Then you can go back to default Camera app which would work again.Please let me know if this works also for you 😉
i don't know if have mine replaced or wait for a iOS 7.x update , since a lot of people encountered this problem after upgrade to iOS7.... is Apple sure it's a hardware problem ?
