Music not syncing after iOS 7 update

I updated to iOS7 on my iPhone 4 and less than half of my music is syncing to my phone. Any thoughts? I am already hating this update for more than one reason and this is adding icing to the cake...

HI,

i tried this and it has helped me get all the songs that were not getting synced in my phone.

first check and see if all ur device and ur computer is updated.

1) go to the itunes library (my music) and right click on the song that has exclamation mark( ! ) or the songs that are not being synced.

2) go to info and locate the song in your computer

3) select it and then again try sycning your phone.

the songs get missing from itunes library when the songs has been shifted to different folders or if u have changed the name of the title.

so pls try doing it.

it helped me synced almost 190 songs that were in my computer but itunes could not locate it.

thanks.

iOS 8 Fixed Music Sync for me!

This has been a NIGHTMARE Issue for me ever since I Updated my iPhone 4S from iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 7. It’s AGONY **** since 11/2014 until THIS GOOD NEWS:

In October 2014, I upgraded to iPhone 6, 128GB, which came with iOS 8, Ever since, I’ve been able to sync almost 30,000 Songs. The Speed and Stability Improvement, compared to iPhone 4S is very obvious!

Most Songs that I Sync are my own recordings, 32K AACs, some are ripped CDs, plus iTunes purchases!

I have close to 100 Smart Playlists.

After Upgrading to iOS 8.2 from iOS 8.1.3, the Music Sync on my iPhone 6 got broken, but that did not happen on my iPad 3, when I did the same versions Update! The Obvious Difference between those 2 Devices are:

iPad 3 is 64 GB, and I was syncing approximately 1500-2000 Songs, and have lots of Free Space on it

iPhone 6, also lots of Free Space, but 30,000 Songs, and over 100 Smart Playlist!

So, either there were some Major Changes in the Music Sync, as part of Updating iOS 8.1.3 to iOS 8.2, or something happened during the Installation of iOS 8.2

With kind help from a Senior Advisor at AppleCare (I can’t recommend it strongly enough), we executed My Plan:

Backup iPhone 6

Set it Up as New

Verified that Music Syncs OK, just a 100, or so Songs

Restored from Backup

Verified that Music Syncs OK, just a 100, or so Songs

Then it took me 5 Days to Transfer approximately 29,000 Songs. After that my Sync is ROCK SOLID! Almost Daily I add approximately 10-50 Songs, 32 K AACs, and it takes approximately 3-5 Minutes.

I got in the habit of Keeping Very Detailed Logs of All my Sync. I use my iPad Clock, Stop Watch, Laps for it! The Lap tells me he how Long each Segment is, and the Total Duration is in the right-most column!

Here is a recent Example of my Log! Feel free to use it as your Logs β€œTemplate”:

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

I Sync via USB, not Wi-Fi, so that it is More Reliable, and Faster

On iPhone 6 - 28949 Songs, before Sync

Sync Music = 28882 + 47 = 28929

Added = 47, 32K AACs

Backing up

01 m 46.06 s - iTunes Finished, Spinning Arrows on iPhone 6 = !!!

Total Sync Duration = 00 hrs + 04 m 43.81 s !!! - Finished Sync

Ended up w/ 28996 - 28929 = + 67 Songs More on iPhone 6 !!! ????

+67 Songs is probably due to iOS Treating some of my Songs as Duplicates, when they actually are not. But hey, all I care about is that the Total Number of Songs on iOS is not LESS than the Number of Songs that iTunes is telling me it’s Syncing!

Also, I have several Folders, and not just Smart Playlists, so MAYBE that is what is causing that 67 Songs Difference? But I don’t worry about that anymore!

Other, before Sync = 2.04 > 2.05 > 2.07 GB - I no longer worry about the OTHER…

––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

iPhone 6 Available = 80.7 GB before Sync vs. After Sync = xxxxx GB

The first 10 Thousand Songs Synced fairly fast, then the Speed of Syncing drops to approximately 5 Songs per minute, thus it’s best to do it overnight!

Here is VERY IMPORTANT INFO:

If you have even half of my almost 30,000 Songs, very short ones, then plan on Syncing in BATCHES - first 3000 to 4000 Songs, then smaller Batches!

The iTunes Sync Finished fairly quickly during those Big Batches - approximately 10-12 minutes or so. Those Segments get Longer as the Total Number of Songs being Sync grows! Initially, before I got to approximately 10-15 Thousands Songs range, the iTunes Sync Segment was Finished in under 10 min.

After iTunes Sync is Finished, ALL your Songs are on your iOS Device, but at the Top of the Screen, near Wi-Fi Icon, you will see a Circle of Arrows that are Spinning Clockwise! That is iOS way of telling the user that those Songs are being PROCESSED!!!

The More Songs you Sync All At Once, the Longer the Process, but… THE GOOD NEWS is:

You can Eject you iOS Device from your computer, see My Set Up at the bottom.

You can make calls and do everything else on your iPhone during that Process, while those Arrows are Spinning!

According to AppleCare, you can even listen to your iTunes during that Process. Only thing is that iTunes might not be able to Play your the Songs that you just Synced, because the have NOT been Processed YET!!! You’ll see the Red Circles next to those Songs Names!

To be on the Safe Side, I avoid using Music App on my iPhone 6, during that Process!

If it’s a Big Batch, I do my Sync overnight, and after about 4-7 Hours, a batch of 1500 Songs is PROCESSED on iPhone! But again, I have to REMIND YOU: those 1500 Songs are being added at that point to 23-25 Thousand Songs that have already been Synced! Thus, particularly in my Situation, with so many Smart Playlists, the iOS Sync has a LOT OF PROCESSING to do, comparing those THOUSANDS of songs!

THE BIGGEST MISTAKE that, I GUESS, people make is this:

The see those Red Circles on their iOS Devices

They panic, thinking something is broken

They do a Soft Rest of their iOS Device

They no longer see those Arrows Spinning

They think they Fixed the Issue, but in reality the BROKE, DAMAGED, CORRUPTED All

Their Previous Syncs!!!

They Sync Again, and it AGAIN TAKES FOREVER, and USUALLY NOTHING HAPPENS!!!

Then one has to Restore the Phone from the Backup.

Assuming that Backup is NOT Corrupted, one has to be VERY EXTREMELY PATIENT when Syncing Large Number of Songs, as in my case!

Of course, if you have Duplicates in your iTunes, that doesn’t help :)! If you have Orphaned Songs, in your iTunes, i.e. the Songs that have been Deleted Manually, but not Deleted from the Library, or, if the Songs is ACTUALLY, on external Hard Drive that is not Connected to your computer during the Sync, OF COURSE the Sync is going to WAIT till it find such Missing Songs! Thus… Before blaming Apple and iOS Sync, WE ALL have to make sure that all our Libraries are β€œCLEAN”, well maintained!

I went through almost 1 YEAR of MUSIC SYNC NIGHTMARE with iOS 7, and iOS 8 has FIXED it for me!!!

The BEST part of iPhone 6 is those SPINNING ARROWS!!! I.e - After iTunes is Finished, I can SAFELY Unplug my iPhone 6, and LIVE MY LIFE!!!

Now, that my almost 30,000 Songs are on my iPhone 6, those SPINNING ARROWS Process takes 1-2 minutes at most, depending on how many New Songs I am adding!

REMINDER AGAIN - The New Songs that I add almost Daily, have to be Matched, Reconciled, with over 100 Smart Playlists! So, waiting for those Spinning Arrows for a few minutes, as in the following example, is not a huge problem for me:

01 m 46.06 s - iTunes Finished, Spinning Arrows on iPhone 6 = !!!

Total Sync Duration = 00 hrs + 04 m 43.81 s !!! - Finished Sync

Before ios7 I could hook my phone up to my computer via USB and automatically sync all new or changed content whether it was music, photos, videos, or whatever. After ios7 that option for me doesn't work anymore. Now that I have an iPhone 6 with iOS 8.2 I figured out how to sync my phone manually. If I purchased music from the iTunes Store, I locate my PURCHASED playlist and will drag the song(s) over to a playlist I already have established. I then click my phone's icon (it will be towards the top of the screen where your playlists are) then click the little triangle to show all the playlists that are currently on my phone. Go back to the purchased playlist, locate and highlight the song or songs and this time right click your mouse. Scroll down to ADD TO PLAYLIST. You are about to manually add the songs to your playlist on your DEVICE. Once your finished, hit the sync button. With your phone still hooked up to USB, go into your Music app on your phone and check to see if the new added songs are there. If so, disconnect your USB cable and that's it.

Not sure if anyone else has answered this yet, but I had the exact same issue. If you notice on the left hand side of the song there are sometimes a little exclamation point next to the song title. This means that iTunes cannot locate the file on your computer. I had mine stored in a separate file folder than my iTunes one, hence why it couldn't locate the songs after the update when trying to sync. Find a song you want in its original file folder, then play it in iTunes. A prompt should come up asking if you want to use this location to locate other files. Click on the "find files" button and all the previously exclamation marked songs will no longer be labelled as such, and syncing should now be possible
