Time zone problems with iOS 7

Why does my iPhone 5 automatically set the time zone for Chicago when I live in Tennessee after I updated to iOS 7?

Yep, exact same thing happened to me today too. Caused me to be an hour late to work. And didn't even realize what was going on until I got to work!

I live in Knoxville, TN (eastern time zone) and the 'set automatically' on and some time in the middle of the night it switched me to Chicago (central time zone)!

I've changed it to manual until they fix this bug!

I'm also in Nashville, I'm on Sprint with my iPhone 5 and iOS 7 and I'm also having this issue. Even though I'm in the Central time zone, when Date & Time is Set Automatically the time zone is set to New York or eastern time and the phone's clock jumps ahead an hour.

Curiously, it appears to be related to LTE use. It you turn off Enable LTE under Cellular and then Set Automatically Date & Time, the time zone shows Chicago (ie, Central). If you re-enable LTE use, the Time Zone automatically resets to New York again, EST.

This is also occuring on my wife's iPhone 5 with iOS 7. This was not an issue with IOS 6 on either my or my wife's iPhone 5. For now, I've got the Date & Time set manually to Central time. This could be an issue with Sprint, their local LTE tower, or iOS 7 since it did not occur until the update. As I travel some what regularly, this could become a major pain and I hope Apple or Sprint can resolve this ASAP.

Is this the case with your iPhone as well?

I figured that as well. Last night, I called Sprint Customer Service to report this issue and they opened a case to send to the engineering department to check what's wrong with the LTE network. I recommend you all call to report this issues so they know it is massive to other people and not only some users.

Make sure you all explain the LTE relevance with the time zone change.

Depending on where in TN you are, that would be correct.

If the device is set to Automatic, the time is coming from the cell tower.

For those that are having issues, who is the carrier? Have they been contacted? Do other phones experience the same issue on the same network?

Yes, it's very odd that it started after updating to iOS 7.

Might be worth trying Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
