My ipad VIDEOS app doesn't show the movie Names with IOS 7

I just upgraded to IOS 7. The Apple VIDEOS app no longer displays the file name for videos that don't have album art. I have to tap on each video screen shot (which is typically meaningless) to bring up the info/play screen to see the movie's "Name". Under IOS 6.1.4 (and prior versions) the VIDEOS app displayed the .mp4 file name underneath all videos without album art.

Is there an option to set to get the "Name" displayed on the VIDEOS main screen, or get a LIST view rather than an icon view, using IOS 7? (I have not found one)

Since most of my movies do not have album art this makes the VIDEOS app virtually useless.

Thanks for the app suggestion. I've actually owned an app (FileBrowser) for a long time that works for video streaming; however, it doesn't remember where I stopped when viewing a video. Otherwise it works fine.

I'm going to check out Air Media Center, however.

As for Apple, why add a feature (home sharing videos) that simply doesn't work for most people?

I recently bought two iPads for me and my wife, who has hundreds of videos. I was shocked to learn of this basic blunder by Apple and cannot believe they can't do a simple fix by restoring a simple alphabetical list view option. We are seriously considering ditching the iPads and going to a (much cheaper) android platform.

As a simple interim fix, could Apple not simply allow the viewing and alphabetical sorting of videos from the general>usage>Storage>videos>show all function? As you can delete videos from here it should be simple to add a play button and allow alphabetical sorting.

As I consider this a major flaw, what is wrong with Apple as this thread has been going on for yonks. We should not have to play around renaming hundreds of videos in iTunes and/ or adding graphics then re-synching.

Artwork can be found and loaded under Windows by:

- going to http://images.google.com

- search for <movie name> MOVIE POSTER

- click on the thumbnail you like

- right-click the big image and click on SAVE IMAGE AS

- bring up iTunes

- right-click the movie in iTunes and click on GET INFO

- select the ARTWORK tab

- click the ADD button

- select the file you just downloaded from Google

It's a PITA but once it's done it's done.

I was looking for a batch way to do it - 😢

I have found a workaround by changing file type to "music video." This will work when using home sharing. The files will show up in iphone under videos app>home sharing>music videos as a list.

It makes the appleTV a little more clumsy, they show up under music>music videos>all

Note that the files will move in itunes to music>music videos. I thought itunes had deleted them all when I did a batch change!

Hope this helps.

Yeah, almost works. Except that there is no way deal with the chapters of the video.

For example if you have the entire live concert of an artist, the 'music video' options assumes it is a single.

Apparently Apple doesn't believe that anyone watches an entire video on a portable device.

Thanks for the info, but still have to go back to using the JPG idea with an icon.

My next phone will be a galaxy.

i'm pretty sure someone has mentioned it but thought i'd add it again since this is a long thread: not perfect but pretty good and it's free. i'm talking MoliPlayer:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/moliplayer-free-movie-music/id488691300?mt=8

your playlist will show the title of the video, the length, whether it's a new addition, if you've watched some of the video, it'll tell you how much of it you've watched, it'll start playing where you stopped, etc.

very good for a free app. i've been using it for months now and have never had a problem with it. i've given up on apple fixing this obvious flaw...

I really do not like to bash Apple, but being the best does not mean perfect. I just discovered that Apple is consistently stupid on this issue. Just as there is no name/title information for Films (Video) on the iPad, as has been the theme here, the same problem exists in iBooks. I've some user manuals that were broken down into chapter/topic PDFs - in other words, 20 or so PDF documents represents the whole manual. Put those into iBooks (OS X) and make a 'Collection' of them. Go to iTunes, attach the iPad, sellect the manual documents for sync, sync, and whoa - the Collections identifier isn't evident, and the pdfs themselves without document title. I had added several manuals, each with multiple PDFs, thinking that they would retain their Collection bundling, but it appears not. Yes, I have Sync Collections set ON on the ipad, but to no evident effect.

That's not what I get with iBooks on OS X, it always shows me the title and author name beneath the cover image. This applies to both books purchased in the iBooks Store and other epub books sideloaded into iBooks (if they have the correct internal epub tags set with this info). It does this when books are displayed by any of the sort tabs in iBooks - All Books, Collections, Authors, Categories. List of course simply lists the books (if only the Videos app had this option!) but it does include the title and author info as you'd expect.

What version of iBooks are you using? 1.0.1?

This is really a Pain in the A** how do we go about notifying Apple so we can get some kind of fix for this??
This CANT be something they did on purpose
Right?

Removing the Names and the ability to choose a Picture frame so you can at least see the movie is just stupid and if this is where Apple is going I am TOTALLY dumping 2 iPhones 2 iPads and going to Android...
We should have seen this coming with the kind of carless
(Will fix it when WE think it’s a Problem Attitude ********!)
Not good Apple, I’m OUT if this is not fixed!
