My ipad VIDEOS app doesn't show the movie Names with IOS 7

I just upgraded to IOS 7. The Apple VIDEOS app no longer displays the file name for videos that don't have album art. I have to tap on each video screen shot (which is typically meaningless) to bring up the info/play screen to see the movie's "Name". Under IOS 6.1.4 (and prior versions) the VIDEOS app displayed the .mp4 file name underneath all videos without album art.

Is there an option to set to get the "Name" displayed on the VIDEOS main screen, or get a LIST view rather than an icon view, using IOS 7? (I have not found one)

Since most of my movies do not have album art this makes the VIDEOS app virtually useless.

I would like to know how you identify movies without the title. The artwork does not contain a title, it shows the first frame of the movie on my iPad. And again, why do Home Movies and Music Videos show titles, but not regular movies? I have over 1500 movies and none of them display titles on my iPhone or my iPad! This is becoming a pattern with Apple. Since Jobs passed away, they seem to be in a race with MicroSoft for mediocre performance, but at a much higher price.

iChas,

There are 3 ways to get artwork for your movies, and the artwork always has the title on it.

1. If you download from iTunes the artwork is included.

2. Go online. Google "DVD Covers". Many sites will come up from which you can either download (or copy) artwork. Once you have the image, right click to "Copy". Then (in iTunes) go to the "Movies" page (or Unwatched, or Home Videos), find the box for the movie in question, right click, and click on "Get Info". Go to "Artwork", right click in the box, and paste the image in. Then click "O.K.

3. If you happen to be transferring the movie from a DVD, you can (assuming you have a scanner), scan the DVD cover, bring up the image and then copy/paste it in the "Artwork" page as described in #2.

The issue that everyone is annoyed about is the fact that with the new iOS7, the title which used to appear below the artwork is no longer there, even though it exists on the "Get Info" page.

iChas,

You don't have to change each movie individually! Highlight the ones you want to change to "Home Movie", right click, and select "Get Info". You'll get a box asking if you're sure you want to change multiple items. Click "Yes", make your change, and click O.K. Just be aware, you can only change files of the same type at one time. In other words, if you've downloaded a movie with iTunes extras, (and have modified the extras so they are transferrable to iPad) their status of the "extras" must be changed separately from the film itself.

Agreed. I'm a video professional. Clients send me files to view all the time. The videos all start in black. So now I have a hundred black boxes with no file names to see what each file is. This is insane. The ios 7 graphics are terrible. I can't believe we have sunk this low. The original green type on a black CRT screen was easier to read than this.

And yes a list view should also be an option. Come on Apple! You really need to fix this quick.

I urge everyone having this problem to follow Commando Cody's instructions. I just got done converting 52 DVD rips that had no titles in the video section of my ipad, to 52 home videos (complete with titles AND date of installation) in less than five minutes. As long as I have thumbnails with titles, I don't care if they are in the video or home video section. Apple, you really blew it. There was no reason to change the previous video format. Thank you Forum.....I knew you come come through.

I wish they'd do the same for TV Shows! I've got many home recorded and side-loaded TV Shows in iTunes that I home share to my iPad for viewing and it's always driven me insane that you couldn't get the titles listed beneath the frames even though the meta-data is all there in iTunes.

Why I used to moan doesn't it display titles for Movies but not TV Shows? Why is there no list view available for anything? At least now Movies works the same as TV Shows always has! I couldn't believe it when I saw what they'd done to the Videos app in iOS 7, they actually made it worse! I wouldn't have believed that was possible.

Maybe now people will kick up enough of a stink to force Apple to finally fix this appallingly designed app. I just hope they fix it for Movies and TV Shows, not just one of them.

I solve my problem by adding an Artwork on each video.
A picture (jpg) of 667 pixels by 1000 pixels do the work great for you iPad and also AppleTV.
You can alway make a screen capture that say it all and apply it to your video.
To add the Artwork, just choose the movie in iTune and get the «info» (cmd-i)

and go to the Artwork tab.

Hope this help other.

P.S. Beware : When I upgraded my iPad to iOS7,
iTunes turned off my home sharing on my computer.

Bill, I think you misunderstand what I was saying. I didn't say the TV Shows category doesn't appear in the Videos app, it does, but the grid listing of the shows in it do not include the title of the show from iTunes, unless it's a show purchased from the iTunes Store (and therefore has official artwork included that includes the show/series name).

The Videos app has always worked like this with TV shows, but Movies used to be different, they always showed their iTunes titles in the grid listing. But with the iOS 7 version of the Videos app now Movies also do not display the title info from iTunes when listed. Now only the Home Videos category displays the titles of the movies in the Videos app. That's what I was talking about.
