Isn't one of the bigger points about this upgrade the fact that it's supposed to make iOS7x run quicker and smoother on older devices?

The only claim is for the iPhone 4. Testing shows that it runs significantly faster than iOS 7.0.x, but not as fast as 6.1.3.

I can't do this. I am going to have to spend 200 to 300 dollars on a used iphone 4 with iOS 6 on it. I resisted and resisted and resisted updating but I foolishly dropped my phone into a sink of dish water and no amount of drying it out made it come back. When I bought a replacement it came with iOS 7, so nobody can accuse me of "knowingly updating". I have never been more bummed with any upgrade for any device or program that I have ever used in my entire life. It wasn't until my replacement phone came in that I came to see just how important my iPhone has become for my life. I practically live on the thing and I didn't even know it until it went from being my best friend to being my worst enemy. My head throbs every time I use any app. My eyes hurt if I look at it for too long. The bouncy motion of the text bubbles when I try to text people actually makes me feel nauseated. The battery drains like coca-cola being slurped with a straw. It takes longer to charge. If only there was at least a way to change the color of the font. The white on green and white on blue is just too hard for my eyes to even look at. Next pay day I an buying a used phone with iOS 6 on it.

Dark:

Did you try upgrading to IOS 7.1?

It has many improvements in it that make the IOS much less obnoxious. A less juvenile color scheme, adding button shapes so you can distinguish content from controls, more controls in the settings function.

IOS 7 still looks like a teenage girl designed it, and navigation is still degraded from 6, but there are some functional improvements that are nice.

I suggest you pursue solutions to your problems rather than whining about them.

Typical unhelpful obnoxious response ... why not admit that the the new OS design is absolutley attrocious on almost every level ... can't imagine worse really. What a shot in the foot ... Google/Android must be popping the champagne on a daily basis.

Truly unhelpful post. Why not admit that YOUR opinion may not be the only possible opinion on the subject? Or are you the sole arbiter of taste in the world? Did you notice that since iOS 7 and the devices that have it natively have come out that Apple sales of iPhones have set new records, and outpaced the sale of Android devices? And that the look that you so despise is very close to the look of android devices?

MY opinion, which is the only one that counts, is that iOS 7, and especially iOS 7.1, is a great improvement over iOS 6 in almost every respect, in terms of look and feel, functionality and performance.

No. The design is perfectly fine. It works for many many people out there. Many more than those that come here and whine incessantly about how ugly it is.

You don't like it, its fine, whining abut it here is not going to change things. Send feedback to Apple. It seems to have made a difference already with the new bolder keyboard and lettering and other changes made to iOS 7 for the 7.1 version release.

As to Google Android, popping champagne, yeah they probably want to celebrate that Apple by itself owns around 40% of the tablet market, while Samsung for instance struggles at around 18 - 20 %. And the Other brands that use Android go even lower. And with Windows tablets in the mix at around 10% of the market, yeah i'm sure Andorid has a lot to celebrate.

Not sure why, since Apple stock is up since the release of iOS 7.

Perhaps while you do not like the new look, many other people actually do?

My response was for DarkZephyr. I have no idea who you are or what your problems may be. I suggest you start a new Discussion and describe what's wrong with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod. In the absence of such rudimentary details, no one can begin to guess, or help.

I much prefer iOS 7 to any previous version. I don't understand why anyone would want to regress to iOS 6's clunky operation and dated appearance, but given iOS 7's adoption rate rapidly approaching 90% it's not worth understanding.

Hm, for me...

iPhone crashes regularly now

Safari crashes 60% of the time when I open it

Calendar far less usable

Some of my fav apps don't work anymore

Harder to read power status

harder to read time

harder to read timer

Far less contrast overall

Lots of 'tweaking' of UI is a bug, not a feature. Apple is known for 'setting it to the best' and not making you customize everything.

Accidentally open search when I sweep

etc etc

And what troubleshooting steps have you taken so far?

Basic Troubleshooting Steps when all else fails (or you haven't bothered to do anything yet except complain)

- Quit the App by opening multi-tasking bar, and swiping the App upward to make it disappear. (For iOS 6, holding down the icon for the App for about 3-5 seconds, and then tap the red circle with the white minus sign.)

- Relaunch the App and try again.
- Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

- Reset the device. (Same article as above.)

- Reset All Settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings)

- Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)

- Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.

- Test the issue after each step.

There are entire blogs dedicated to just about anything you can think of, and many things you haven't. Bloggers always need something to say, so taking cheap shots at highly successful products is a really easy way to satisfy a blogger's need to produce verbal diarrhea.
