Hi these as very good points on both sides :-) However, and please correct me if I am wrong Meg, I think you might be forgetting about those with no choice. Let me explain. Getting back to the original post the question is "How do I uninstall iOS7?" Of course this has been clearly discussed at various levels. But what about the circumstances which got you to iOS7? Well we have people who are early adopters (and thats fine), and there is valid arguments about try before you upgrade and that is where I pose a question. What about folks who for one reason or another needed to re-recently re-install their phone and apply their backup? Or even more simplistic want a fresh image as I have done once in the past to get a clean image. So I guess what i am eluding to is don't forget some people hear are on iOS7 for these reasons and they were not remiss in checking out iOS 7 first. There was simply no option.

Would it have been reasonable to expect Apple to allow folks to restore their phones on the previous release at least for some transition period after iOS7 came out. In other words not a case of reverting from iOS 7, rather just being able to stay on their current release when faced with having to re-install / restore for a legitimate reason?

Add me to the list of people who need a different theme. iOS7 is too bright for my light-sensitive eyes and the zoomy transitions give me motion sickness (which I have not had for 20 years!). Ugh.

The thing is--I'm flabberghasted. The functionality is fine--but the colors and animations. Why not give us a dark theme (heck, just allow me to invert the colors for all the menus). And STOP THE ANIMATIONS. THEY ARE SO ANNOYING. Seriously, iOS7 is a much bigger fail than the maps issue, but the media is being pretty big sissies about making any disparaging comments about Apple. Sad.

I really don't want to have to learn and train my entire family on Android, but iOS7 is a dealbreaker for me (as it currently stands).

Actually what is giving me the chuckles is that the finger print reader will read just about anything. The latest was even a man's private parts...that does not give me the warm fuzzies about security but does make me LOL

It aptly shows that the scanner can't tell the difference between a finger, a cat's paw or a man's nipple. All it needs is a pattern. The greater security concern in this should be that your providing Apple with your fingerprint... which is almost as dumb as willingly giving someone your credit or debit card information to keep "on file"...

False information. Nothing about the fingerprint scanner sends any data to anyone. The scanner takes your fingerprint, reduces it to a pattern, then converts that pattern to an ecrypted numeric hash, just like a password hash. The hash is stored only on the device itself, in an encrypted part of the iOS file system.

Nothing gets transmitted to Apple or anyone else. The system is entirely local to the device itself. Nor does it retain anything at all even remotely akin to an actual image of a fingerprint. All that ever gets retained is the numeric data hash which represents the mathematical pattern of the fingerprint.

Agree 100%. Many of the animations don't serve a purpose and the text is hard to read.

Apple used to symbolize 'simple, intuitive and easy to use.' With IOS7 they have distanced themselves from that, letting art and gimmickry trump usability. Sure there are some enhancements in IOS7, and I like them, but these devices have to be USABLE as well as useful.

Scrolling thin white letters on bright green or red - terrible!

Tiny medium gray letters on pale gray - terrible!

Messages that bounce off each other when you scroll - really?

Icons that fly into place on the home screen - why do I need to wait for them to land?

Plus the interface looks like - as my wife says - an ice cream store.

I'm on the fence about having updated my 5, but I am not planning to update any other devices.

On teh other hand I am well into middle age and wholeheartedly welcome the new design. Perhpas it is becasue I am interested in usability and not knee jerk reactions.

Knock yourself out. Don't forget the anti-virus software when you do.

I am also well into middle age and love iOS 7. It's working beautifully on my iPhone 5. Of course, I knew what to expect before I downloaded. I would never download software on to something I use every day, all day, without checking it out first. That would be silly.

It's quite possible that you are interested in usability. My phone is just for show.

You have certainly been branded and "they" have tapped into your inner child.

Not a knee jerk reaction here. We have a 4S and a 5, and it's plain to see that the smaller screen on the 4S shows more content more clearly with IOS6 than the larger 5 does with IOS7. IOS7 wastes a lot of screen space and makes the [reduced] content harder to read.

The new features are good, and I can get used to the changes in the way the old features work (although I might grumble to myself for a while). But the legibility issues are a failure on Apple's part, and some of the animations are distracting rather than helpful to the experience.

Using IOS7 isn't purely optional. New phone, you get IOS7. Want to use AirDrop? Gotta use IOS7. Want to use iTunes Radio? Gotta take the bad with the good.

Not switching to Android over it, but certain aspects are unneccessarily disappointing. There's no reason to step backwards in legibility.

Please do feel free to switch to Samsung Gallaxy...a report released this week on susceptibility to damage found the iPhone to have a middle level score, the Samsung had the absolute worst score. Plus viruses, hacks, security flaws. And a horrible battery life...friend has gone through three of them and the latest is the best of the lot...gets a whopping one and half hours battery life.

Enjoy your new Samsung.
