iPhone 5 camera not working after ios 7 update

The front camera works initially, but the rear camera shows a blurry image which then freezes the app. Several hard resets have had no effect.

Installed the ios 7 update the rear camera went black and no longer works. The fact that Apple won't do anything for people whose warranty is expired ****** me off. It was not our fault that our camera stopped working after this update. We are now forced to pay $264 out of pocket to replace our phones to issue that was caused by a software update Apple Issued. This is not right. I have gone through all viable means to resolve this issue contacted my cell phone company, went to apple store, and have called customer support, and the issue has not been resolved. The guy at apple support just said have everyone who is affected by this issue go to apple.com/feedback to complain about this issue. He said he was going to try and get higher ups to try and resolve my case but that he could no longer do anything for me. I now have to wait a week to hear anything. So everyone rise up and complain to Apple about this issue we should not have to pay more money out of pocket to fix something we did not break.

Seems like iPhone 4 has a different menu: settings > general > about > diagnostics and usage > diagnostics and usage data. But no logs recorded from it. Incidentally now my camera just decided to work :( typical as when you need it to work it doesn't!

I've sent them a feedback:

Since I updated to iOS 7 on my iPhone 4 the camera shutter remains shut!

I have tried a complete reinstall, googling many web sites and see many tricks to fix this bug but nothing fixes it permanently!

I wish I could go back to iOS 6 where it always worked.

I'm very dissatisfied with the lack of compatibility, that's not to mention the slow relation of many apps and typing. Why didn't you just make it impossible for me to upgrade, or why not make it possible to downgrade to iOS 6?

My next phone will not be apple!!!

Just got back from Robina Apple with a replacement front camera at no charge, would not replace the phone.

One thing that got my blood to boil was the staff member tried to get a Minor to sign the repair contract, when I asked if it was legal I was replied "probably not". The manager said they don't discriminate by age and yes it's legal to get a Minor to sign a contract otherwise Apple wouldn't do it, she handed the phone back because the document was not signed to prove a point maybe. I handed the phone back and signed the agreement as the father and phone front camera was replaced.

But waiting for over an hour standing in the designated "near the headphones" section was awesome.

I hope I'm as lucky as you... My phone's camera started to glitch and then I decided maybe it was time to update to the new IOS. So I did and right after I updated it my rear side camera and flash did not work anymore and only the front facing one did after I forced it to by repeatedly clicking it to turn the camera around.

I decided to delete snapchat and all the other apps that use the built-in camera app because they weren't working anyways since my camera wasn't even working properly.

After messing around with my phone my rear view camera decided to work again. It worked for about an hour and then it shut off again. Black screen, Frozen and didn't even switch to the front facing camera. I then reset my phone by holding the two buttons on the iphone and then tried again. Nothing worked.

So now I'm stuck with a phone that the camera only works front faced and NO FLASHLIGHT use 😟

I brought it into a genuis bar hoping to get it looked at, but all the workers were working with people already... So now I have an appointment to meet with them tomorrow evening so lets see how nice or happy they are.

I am not under warranty, so I'm pretty sure they're going to make me cough up some $$$

I just want my camera to work the way it's supposed to and the flash as well...

I swear I've tried everything. Reset, restore, reboot all to original factory settings. My phone is just going nowhere...

I even did what someone said about messing my passcode up and then restarting my phone and then flipping that console up to turn the flashlight on and it worked, for about 5 seconds and then it shut off and I can't even click the button it's not highlighted or it doesn't give me the option at all.

I have been on to Apple support regarding this issue and they advised me to carry out a fully factory reset on the phone and see if this works.

I have done this several times and still get no fix from the camera issue.

Apple online support advises that the upgrade on IOS 7 was a beta version and this is the bug within the apple camera bug.

The issue I'm facing is the IPhone 5 I have is no longer under warranty and I have done modifications to the outer shell.

Any ideas?

I have been an apple customer for years but this issue with the camera seems like a long line of oncoming issues.

Thanks guys

Pete

The only solution is a new iphone I believe. I went in yesterday to the genius bar. The people there said they haven't heard of this issue being major. I was 69 days out of warranty and so the guy said the only thing to do is to get the entire phone replaced which will cost $269 out of pocket. and then additional fees and taxes will be added onto that.

I have the same problem where back camera stopped working and after opening it will show a blurry image. Took the genius bar appointment and went there yesterday and they said its hardware problem and since my iPhone 5 is now out of warranty so they will charge $269 to replace it with new phone.

I did everything suggested in this forum and nothing worked on my phone. Finally today I tried a last thing where i tried to blow the hot air near the little camera hole using hair dryer for around 5 mins ensuring that its not getting too hot by cooling down it between. After drying it for 5 mins I did a reset through power button and home button. After restart camera started working and till now its working fine. Might be it was sheer luck that it worked for me but It worth sharing with this forum and worth a try before giving $270 to Apple for something their fault.
