iPhone 5 camera not working after ios 7 update

The front camera works initially, but the rear camera shows a blurry image which then freezes the app. Several hard resets have had no effect.

I'm glad that yours was a hardware problem, but I actually replaced the entire camera and it still does not work. I cannot completely rule out hardware problems, but after replacing the camera I occassionally have gotten it to work by using some of the above mentioned techniques (fiddling with the brightness adjustments, etc.).

Just to really lay out the chain of events:

  1. Camera works
  2. Upgraded to iOS 7
  3. Camera doesn't work
  4. Reset entire phone
  5. Camera worked briefly, but then doesn't work
  6. Replaced physcial camera with brand new replacement part
  7. Camera doesn't work
  8. Tried some of above suggestions about brightness auto-adjustments
  9. Camera worked briefly, but then doesn't work after a couple days
  10. Tried another suggestion (again, all software)
  11. Camera worked briefly, but then doesn't work after a couple days

Now, tell me that's hardware. Again, I can't completely rule it out, but it seems like a software issue. My only remaining hope is that something in 7.1 will fix it.

Sad to say I'm in the same boat as everyone else here...my iPhone 5s camera is NOT working. First it goes dark gray then locks...nothing works, you can't shut down the phone, get back to the main menu, nothing. Then after a bit the home screen shows up scrambled and flipping vertically like a bad signal on a 1950's T.V. screen...at this point nothing works at all except to let it fade to hybernate mode and leave it alone for awhile, with luck after about 20 minutes, the login screen will come up and the phone works again...just NOT the camera.

Come on Apple, this is my first iPhone and I bought your hype...how about getting this issue solved !!!!

Well. Same problem here iPhone5. The "problem" appeared after a few months of installing the software update! The only thing that works for me is the following.

1. Back up iPhone on iMac

2. Restore iPhone (not from backup... but as a NEW iPhone)

3. Strat iPhone

4. Restore from Back Up

This makes my cammera work for about a week. After that... the whole shebang again!!!!!

I really hope someone from Apple reads this thread! IT IS A SOFTWARE PROBLEM, NO DOUBT!

I hope they take care of it in ios 7.1

If not, I will deeply regret having in my home NO LESS THAN 7!!!! iDevices (from iMac to tablets iPhones and Appple TV)!!!

I hoe I could help!

Well, unnfortunatly I am back again!

This time after the restore the camera worked for EXACLTY 12 hrs!!!!!!

is anyone taking care of this issue? What I am curious about is if the problem appears on the rep[lacement phones? (I saw a lot of people got theyr iPhones replaced!)

Is Apple reading this forum?

Is anyone working on the issue in Cuppertino or... just ignoring it?

Do they even know what the issue is?

Well... hoping for an answer... probably I will not get one!

Apple local agent in Dubai has refused to replace the phone and asked me to call Apple call center to obtain replacement authorization, I called Apple who also refused to give the authorization because the phone was not purchased from Apple Store. The local agent hase proposed on me to pay USD 500 to replace it with a new same iPhone 5 (not 5S). I took it to a workshope who has replaced the camera for me for USD 40 only and it works perfectly. The problem then is a hardware problem but very disappointed by Apple and its local agent.
