iPhone 5 camera not working after ios 7 update

The front camera works initially, but the rear camera shows a blurry image which then freezes the app. Several hard resets have had no effect.

This idea a few posts back worked for me..

Press down hard on top right of phone on front where camera is positioned at back, then turn phone off and back on again. If doesn't work first time give it a couple of go's. Hope it works for others!

I did it while the camera app was open......

second time and it was working again. Not sure for how long...fingers crossed!

Hey, that is a funny story and to add onto this I JUST DID WHAT YOU SAID. I'm astonished... I honestly wanna see how long this is gonna last or if I'm gonna have to do this again. So here's what I did.

I pressed firmly and with quite a lot of pressure really hard on my camera and the top right side of my phone.

Then I tried to restart my phone by holding the lock button and the home button, but dont' even get me started with my lock button. I've had problems with it holding down and even locking or unlocking since day one when the iphone 5 first came out.

Anyways I did the whole hard way by changing my accessibility and I had the lock home button on my screen (that black dot/app)

After restarting my phone... THE BACK SIDE CAMERA WORKED.. It showed static lines... Idk if it's because I'm in dim lighting but hey it worked!

So I suggest people try that out?

The thing is, if you are doing a reboot as part of the "Press down hard on top right of phone on front where camera is positioned at back, then turn phone off and back on again. If doesn't work first time give it a couple of go's. Hope it works for others!" trick, it isn't really a fair test, b/c often a reboot alone will fix the problem. Temporarily.

So, the camera will stop working again, but applying the "pressure fix" will get it back on. This makes me overthink the fact that it could be a hardware issue. Either there is a loose contact, or it has something to do with the "light" hittimg the camera, wich is blocked by holding a finger there (did not try witouth pressuring, just holding the finger there). And yes, in low light you get somekind of weird "statics". I don't know what to say anymore!

We will probably have to live with the fact that we will have to either change our cameras (or at least check the connection there) or change our phones. Since Apple did not mention anything in the update about a camera fix, I think they are ignoring the issue, thinking also it is a hardware problem.

JayE44... I am quite unsure that the problem is fixed permanently. Do not forget from time to time the camera worked again (for a brief period of time) after restart or restore... So I am affraid this is the case here also.

It would be nice if it would be a permanent solution, but I highly doubt it :(

Updating to 7.1 didn't fix the not responding black screen rear camera 😟

Shame on you Apple for just ignoring this large group of iPhone users, we payed just a much money for our iPhones but clearly there is something going wrong, We didn't all throw around with our phones or got it wet or whatever, even users that are very carefull with their precious iPhones suffer from 'all of a sudden camera failure'. Besides the fact that it shouldn't happen at all, at least you could give us some information.

In the meantime I am going to spread the word and advice users not to buy an iPhone because Apple treats their customers unfair.
