Agreed. It is very unlikely there is going to be a software solution since Apple has already hard sold this issue as hardware failures and forced people to buy replacements. At best, they may come up with a patch to keep more phones from dieing,

I'm curious how anyone was 'forced' into anything.

Bullies can always find a reason to start a fight. Well done TJBUSMC1973.

Yes, I didn't choose the optimal word 😀 We certainly had the option to continue using the factory defective phones with a fraction of their stated capability, or as others did, switch to another phone. [I was in warranty, so got no arguments from Apple, but am still pretty unhappy at how it looks like I would have been treated if the failure appeared 11 days later.]

I am having the exact same problem with my iPhone 4 and considering I just bought a new iPhone 5s I am not optimistic. I have 10 days to return my phone and at this rate I'm beyond annoyed with the quality of Apple products and their lack of progression and will be making the switch. Thanks apple, you just lost a loyal customer. JOBS I Miss U!

I had the same problem on my 4s. Out of warranty since few months so nothing to expect from Apple.

I took it to an electronic repair shop specialized in phones and they replaced the wifi chip.

1 hour work, costs around 50USD, and I get 1 month warranty on the repair.

It helps that I'm in Hong Kong where that kind of shop and skill is easy to find.

ps. I barely had to explain the problem, just walked in and said, "The wifi is no working on my 4s", they already know that problem by heart, so don't believe Apple saying its not common !

The "Airplane Mode On" and "Network Reset" worked for me (so far).

Besides dropping wifi, mine also sporatically drops cellular and exhibits a strange display issue. I've captured the issue in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hCGYsQ8pVI

My first issue with this glitch happened after I landed on a flight when I used the airplane mode quick access button. It has been happening about 1-2 times/day since then and requires a hard reset. Recently, a hard reset has not been clearing the issue.

I took it into the local Apple Store where it was diagnosed as a hardware issue. The local geniuses (and the AppleCare reps via phone) were unable to offer me a replacement as I was ~60 days out of warranty on my iPhone 5. I passed on the option to get a new phone for $279. Now I'm hoping to either limp along until next fall when the 6 is introduced, or buy something cheap like a Moto G and give Android a spin.

Fixed for 40 euros at a non-apple store..

Well, after 3 months of endless debate with Cosmote / Apple Support Provider for Iphones in Greece, I chose not to pay the 220 euros for a replacement phone and went over to a local IT store near by..

The technician, who fixed the iphone told me that the connection between the wi-fi chip and the motherboard has been damaged due to the overheating caused by the IOS 7 update..

He also mentioned that he has tons of iphones 3, 3 and 4s brought to him for the same fix and that it normally gets the job done with that...

AND THE TJBUSMS OF APPLE ASK FOR 220 EUROS! FOR A 40 EURO FIX!!!

I am forced to stay with the messed up Iphone cause I cannot afford a new smartphone at the moment..

Still, I will NEVER, EVER, AGAIN trust another apple device nor I will ever buy another Iphone, Ipad, IKESTODIAOLO..

PS

The law suit is still active. I will seek compensation for 3 months of bs

This article posted (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199) by mariusignorello had the key to what worked for me. I was connecting to an older Wi-Fi router that was using WEP authentication (which worked fine all along with an iPhone 4 with iOS 6.) As soon as I switched my Wi-Fi router to WPA2/Personal authentication (in my case using both TKIP+AES algorithms) and gave it a new WPA shared key, my phone connected fine and all Wi-Fi apps are working. I didn't need to reset the phone or restore anything using iTunes on the phone. It appears iOS 7 was not allowing WEP and requires WPA on the Wi-Fi router being connected to.

...but of course, nothing in the phone or iTunes or anywhere tells you that.

This is terrible.

I travelled to many countries. Guess what? I can not use internet at all. Wifi not working and only way to use internet is to buy a sim card. This is ridiculous. Only 1 useful thing with this phone is camera.

Phone is useless without internet. And i won't buy a new iphone if i can't make sure that apple take care of old iphone users well.

I can only see that apple ignore old iphone users, if i buy a new iphone and eventually become an old iphone, this kind of problem will happen again. Not worthy paying higher. I'm not a fool.

You will continue to lose your customer more and more. Apple is going down. Since tim cook era, apple *****.

I have good news for you. I experienced same problem as you are facing and spent two days tweaking all kind of settings and various online solutions using youtube videos. tried to format, restore to factory setting. deleted all data and content, network settings.. ... nothing worked. so WHAT WORKED?

you wont believe it. but this new silly method worked great for me and i am so confident that it can solve ur problem too.

STEP 1: use any hair dryer to heat up your iphone. you have to do it for approximately 5-7 minutes till you get error message on your phone ' temperature warning, please allow your phone to cool down to use again'

STEP 2: once you get warning message on screen, take your phone and store in fridge (cool) place for approximately 10 minutes.

FINALLY, Once you do that, you wifi , bluetooth, everything will be up running without any issues. I didnt blv this silly method as i am IT-savy person, but this method worked GREAT for me. let me know if it worked for you too.

you have to thank me for helping you 🙂
