Susan's post is that of a person who knows they are wrong, have nothing to contribute, and only gets angry at their inadequacies (never accused someone of having any but their reactions betray something being there). My anger is at someone taking what's mine without my permission. If you want to freely give your's go ahead. By the way I am taking my anger and going to Samsung. I strongly suggest others do the same.
Updated to ios7 the other day and immediately wi fi stopped working.
Seems I'm not the only one having problems from reading others on here......and the very nice girl at the Apple call centre in Lisbon assured me I was an exception when I called with problems whilst dowloading the upgrade.
So, back on the phone again I suppose.
This will be my last Apple device of any description. I've abandoned plans for an ipad and a mac at Xmas. I just dont have the patience in my old age !! Wish I'd stayed with ios6 !
I struggled with this issue for more than a week. Tried every single solution from this thread (except the freezer) - nothing worked. Until I finally decided to erase everything from my iphone and DO NOT RESTORE, but start as NEW PHONE. Then you need to turn the phone off and on again and IT WORKS! (When I restored it, it didn't work).
It is harsh and takes time, as you have to download all your apps again one by one and transfer contacts without connecting to iTunes on your computer. You also lose your iMessages and all data etc (unless there's a way to do backup on iCloud that I don't know about). But I have my wifi connection at last - I've had it for a day now and I hope it would stay (I'll let you know if it doesn't).
There is one more problem - I don't know yet how to synchronise my "new" iphone with my computer without restoring the "old" one. I'll try it soon and see what happens.
In my opinion it definitely is a hardware error of a substandard quality wifi chip in the iPhone 4S.
The installation of the new iOS 7 just pushed it over the edge, destroying our $700 iPhones.
When you do a search on the internet you'll find plenty of people having had the same issue with the installation of iOS 6. However, at the time of the introduction of iOS 6, all iPhone 4S users still qualified for Apple warranty, since all phones were still less than a year old. With as result that at the time people affected went to Apple, got their replacement, felt appreciated, and everyone was happy.
However now with the introduction of iOS7, the story is very different: practically all iPhone 4S users -unaware of their iPhone having a substandard quality Wifi chip- suddenly experiencing this problem after installing iOS 7 find they are in serious and costly trouble:
- the warranty has expired
- Apple has been aware of this issue since the itroduction of iOS6 (fact: just do a google search on "iPhone 4S wifi greyed out")
- apple does not take their responsibility
- and even now -being aware of this issue- Apple is not doing any damage control and taking their responsibility by warning other 4S users NOT to upgrade to iOS7, since that would mean having to admit there is something wrong with the 4s, which costs money and might mean reputational damage.
Well Apple executives; I can assure you not doing anything at all damages your image much more !!
I find this behaviour appalling; Apple really needs to address this issue ASAP and make the iOS7 firmware unavailable for the iPhone 4S. Not doing so and being fully aware by now of this present issue makes Apple imho fully responsible for all new cases of iPhone 4S users -unaware of this issue- installing the iOS 7 firmware from now on and getting this problem.
APPLE: PLEASE TAKE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AND COMMUNICATE TO ALL iPHONE 4S USERS NOT TO INSTALL iOS 7 !!
The WIFI chip of the iPhone 4S is simply not trustworthy !!
sorry to hear that man. i feel your pain. when i read your earlier post i knew that it wouldn't last. i didn't want to say that upfront so thanks for confirming. btw, i was bored and tried the freezer trick. i put it in a ziploc and place it at the bottom compartment of the freezer for 15 minutes. it did work, but WiFi died again after a while as I expected.
I went to my network provider today as Apple told me that although my warranty was up with them my network provider under EU law was responsible for the 2nd year warranty on my iphone. 2 different Vodafone shops and a call to customer service each one told me every manufacturer EXCEPT Apple is covered by a 2 year warranty. Apple charge Vodafone £150 to repair or replace any phone out of its 1 year warranty and so the charge is passed on to the customer and unless I can prove the phone was faulty from day one when I received the phone the EU consumer law does not apply. Makes you query how much confidence Apple have in their own products with only a one year warranty when all other Phone manufacturers provide 2 years.
Well now, I went to the Apple Store and hooked up to their WIFI no problem, I left the store, had problems, They wouldn't attempt to do much other than tell me "It's my problem" Life is too short, Greed is involved with this IOS update and lack of Common Sense testing,, We have HD TV but we still can use our CRT televisions if we choose as well. Lack of accountability here on Apple, Corporate Bullying, This is great for their competitors, Am I the only one here that writes for WIRED magazine? Well, Write to Wired magazine, about it.
Hard reset didn't work for me. I'm so fed up that I am now the proud owner of a droid. It's cheaper and I won't have these issues every time a new update comes along. Apple is forcing people to upgrade by purposely having the previous model to no longer work. Thankfully what I need is a phone and not a brand and I am no longer a loyal Apple customer. I thank them for fixing that problem and making me realize that other brands are just as good if not better. Can't wait to sell my iPad now and get a tablet that can do more than one thing at a time.
I have the same problem on my iphone 4s. After installing ios7 the wifi cannot work.
It is 1 year and a half since I have it so it's 'out of warranty' and Apple refuses to change the phone. The only option I was provided was to pay to get a replacement Iphone 4s.
This is a obvious hardware defect so I believe Apple should be responsible for this !
ps. Harware restart, reboot, reinstall.. all these options were tried without success
Forget it, Apple is ignoring the issue. There is no problem according to them. Like this 30 page forum, all these people just say what ever and it's all fake. That is pretty much what I was told. I went to the apple store today. My phone worked on their insecure wifi, the moment I left back to no wifi. This issue is about corporate greed and no accountability. Great to feel lied to. Who know when a fix will happen.
It is not a hardware defect - it may be an issue with the software, but it is not the physical device. I had the same problem when I first installed iOS 7 on my iPhone 4. For some unknown reason the only Wifi signal it was picking up was the one from my printer, which was totally crazy.
I had to turn off my printer Wifi, Reset All Network Settings on my phone, reset the modem, and then turn on Wifi on my phone while standing right next to the modem. It finally found the Wifi signal, and has been fine ever since.
A lot of people are having issues with getting connected to Wifi, and hopefully it will be fixed soon. But see if you can get connected by doing what I listed above (with the exception of the printer part, of course).
Hopefully it will work for you!
