"Your Message Has Been Read" messages from Samsung Galaxy User

I have an iPhone, my friend has a Samsung Galaxy S4. Randomly, I will receive what looks like a text message from him saying "Your message to 555-555-5555 has been Read". (that's not his real phone number 😝)

In his messaging app, he does not even see this appear at his end, so it's not like he's typing it out. It doesn't even register as a message from his end. It seems to happen randomly with messages, but much more frequently if I send him a picture message.

I have swapped my iPhone with a new one under warranty including a new sim card, plus I've updated from iOS 6 to iOS 7, and it still happens.

On his Galaxy, he has Delivery Reports disabled under his settings. On my iPhone 4S, I have read receipts disabled as well.

He claims it's me requesting a read receipt, I claim it's his phone sending it to me. Either way it's annoying as ****! The fact that it doesn't show up in his messages app makes me think it's something behind the scenes or carrier related. I'm on Rogers, he's on Telus.

Can anyone help me figure out how to disable these messages from coming in?

It happens only with my sister and she has a samsung, i an iphone, and only happens when i send her a picture...so...settings, messages, send & receive, un-check your email address so you are imessaging from only your phone number. Now this didnt solve the problem completely, but it only happens maybe once in 10 pics now as opposed to every single irritating time...i hope this helps you 🙂

okay after so much trials, it is with rogers,.... my friend gets a notification if she sends a read report to me wich she says cancel but the **** thing still sends it to me regardless, she only gets the pop up read report to send to me as i have an iphone and her an s4, and no one else it was doing it to, she cancels the read report and it sends it anyways , so she found an other friend who had an iphone through rogers and it did it to her as she canceled the read report to be sent out, it sent it to her friend anyways, i had a friend in the US with an iphone and i made him send a picture to my friend and she said she did not get a read report to send back notification with him, so it is rogers, it only happenes with that provider , and i'm sorry after unchecking my email , i received 5 read receipt at once lol arrrg , so it still continued, tomorow i have a nephew with an iphone but with a different provider and will let you know how it turned out but sure looks like its rogers, why would they even have that feature embeded in there communication? is that even legal? lol
