A white spot (crescent shaped, about 1/8" diameter) just appeared on my MacBook Pro (purchased April 2013) screen. My symptoms match a number of other reports here: Only appears against light backgrounds--the lighter the background, the brighter the spot. Is that the case with yours? (You said something about it appearing with colors as well.)

From browsing the discussions in this forum, I can see this is a common defect. It also sounds like a number of the people who had their screens replaced for it had a similar problem return within a few months--or ended up with a worse problem. So unless it gets worse (sounds like yours has), I may decide to just live with it.

I have the same problem. My MBP is the non-retina 13" late 2012 series.

I have a hunch that it may be caused by the heat of the computer. I notice that when my MBP is running hot, heat leaks from the keyboard around the Q and W keys. If I close the laptop, the white spot is right between those keys. This leads me to believe that the problem may be caused by closing the laptop while it is running hot, which causes the heat to mess up the screen in that spot. I don't think it is a screen problem, I think it is an airflow problem, which means that if you get a replacement screen, you may be able to avoid having the problem again by waiting until your MBP is cool before closing it. Though, realistically, not everyone has that luxury. I'll be getting a replacement screen when I can, I make music on my Macbook and use it for college as well, so it may be a while.
