iPad2 IOS 7 updated, now locked out, there is no password. Restore backup does not work. HELP

I updated my iPad2 to OS 7 last night and chose to NOT use a passcode because I have an important mtg today and didn't want any problems.

NOW... I am locked out of my iPad2 and spending two hours trying to get this resolved. My day is almost ruined now.

HOW DO I UNLOCK MY IPAD2 WITHOUT A PASSCODE ??????

I had a full schedule previously, and this is KILLING me. I connected my iPad2 to my computer and it synced. I cannot use "restore backup" because of find my ipad app. I cannot turn off "find my ipad" because I am locked out of the machine. I am SO frustrated and the lack of support is killing me as well.

Dont know if this helps but I had a problem with my ipad requesting a number when I turned it on. Having never set one up I was stumped. Read a few answers on here nothing helped then I remember that as I was going through the initial set up of he new system it asked me for a 4 digit code which I thought was just to protect my 'find my ipad' settings. I tried this number and it opened up my ipad. Hope this might help

Success!!! Yes!!! I was able to get our locked and disabled iPad into recovery mode simply by long pressing the power and home buttons for a very long time. Basically through three restarts (Apple logo would appear then go away - 3 times). In other words I held those buttons down until the connect to iTunes graphic appeared on the iPad.

When the iPad booted up in recover mode the following may or may not have affected the outcome:

- 30 pin cable connected to Macbook Pro

- iTunes was already launched with the can't connect to device error message.

- iPad was already disabled.

This process was not documented and is archaic. There SHOULD be some sort of login with Apple ID when the device is disabled!!!! Anyone agree?

TMI about my iPad scenario/problem.

We have iPads available for our customers (children) to use while they wait. Some of our sites only have a few iPads and have chosen not to sync to a computer or have their iPads part of a managed system (Configurator). Anyway, some kid updated one of the iPads to iOS7 and set it up with a passcode. Unfortunately we have no idea who updated this iPad. And we didn't know how the iPad was setup during the iOS7 greeting.

I went to the following link and scrolled down to "If you have never synced your device with iTunes…" Out of desperation in step 4 "Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen" I just held down both the power and the home button until I saw that "connect" message. I was probably loosing my mind at that point and would have kept those buttons pressed all day. Thanks Apple for getting me THAT desperate. There SHOULD be some sort of login with Apple ID when the device is disabled!!!!

I just noticed there are two different screens asking for the passcode following iOS7 upgrade.

A.

I created a passcode during the upgrade process for my phone and it all worked fine.

Now, when I turn on my phone the screen has 'Enter Passcode' then 4 mini circles at the top, then the usual numbers 1 to 0 and then 'Emergency' and 'Delete' at the bottom

B

My partner is adamant he didn't select a passcode during the upgrade process for his iPad

He was locked out and the screen asking for a passcode had an empty box at the top, and OK, alongside the box, then the usual numbers 1 to 0, then 'Cancel'.

Anyway, is there a significance to this? Is the second box asking you to create a passcode that you then repeat?

I don't think it's just a phone /iPad difference.

Any ideas Apple?

I have just updated my iphone 5 with the latest update on ios7. When it finished I was locked out and needed a pass code to get in to my phone even though I had not had the pass code enabled for the last couple of weeks. I tried putting in last pass code that I had used without success. I entered the previous pass code which I had used when I first got the phone and it has let me in thank god. I hope this is useful to somebody. Regards. Graham.

This worked for me so a big vote of thanks but one thing the might help others.
Before I upgraded to ios 7 my Ipad had never been connected to a computer. After I downloaded Itunes and followed steps 1 to 4 a described by MarineWolf Itunes kept on saying that the Ipad was protected by a passcode so could not be accessed. Because I was using a fresh install if Itunes there were no downloads of ios7 on the computer. I had to keep dismissing the messages from Itunes about the pass code and messages about erros until Itunes had downloaded ios 7. It was only when the download of ios 7 had completed that I could go through the whole process successfully without any messages or errors.

First up, a BIG thank you to MARINE WOLF for providing this answer. I had been going mad for two days trying to unlock my ipad, but follow Wolf's insctructions EXACTLY, and, well, it worked for me!!! so theank you again Marine Wolf!!

Here are Wolf's steps:

The way to resolve this issue is to restore the phone. Now if you do not have a back up in iCloud or iTunes you will lose your content. If you backed up after the passcode lock was set up on the phone, you will have to choose to set up as new and lose all your content. Now iTunes will state that it cannot recognize or restore the phone as it has a passcode lock on it.

1 )In order to get past this you will hold down the home and power buttons down at the same time.

2) When the apple symbol comes up on the device you will release only the power button.

3) Next an iTunes symbol, arrow, and usb cord will show up on the phone. At this time release the home button.

4) iTunes on your computer will prompt you with a message stating "iTunes has detected an "device" in recovery mode." You will click okay and then restore the phone.

5) Allow the download to process, times will vary.

6) Upon completion, go through the set up on the phone and pay close attention to the pages that you are on.

7) There will be a page prompting you to put in a passcode. You will have the option to skip it if you do not want it on your device.

8) And finally, I have spoken with James and these are the steps to resolve the issue. Please do not call him as currently he is being overwhelmed with calls and stated that he cannot take calls from customers that he has not worked with already. Please feel free to send me any questions you have as I will also be able to provide you steps to resolve your issue.

REMEBER - follow EXACTLY, and it sould work perfecly like i did for me.

Thanks again, Marine Wolf!!!
