iPhone 4 won't hold charge after iOS 7 update

Hello,

I'm hoping I can get some help with this issue. I updated my iPhone 4 to the new iOS 7 software and now it will not hold a charge. The update was completed just fine last night. I left the phone on the charger all night, but when I awoke this morning I noticed the battery percentage was showing 20%. I was confused and checked the charger; unplugged it and plugged it back in. The phone recognizes that a charger is in the port (audio feedback as well as visual), but the percentage slowly decreases. I also tried using two other chargers to see if it was in fact my charger that was at fault. Same results. Inevitably, the phone reached 0% and shut down. I never had this issue before upgrading to iOS 7. I had iOS 6.1.3 before upgrading and I routinely charged my iPhone 4 daily without any issues. I've tried everything I know to do; any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

Same here. Only problem is that it's completely dead and won't charge. Plugged it to my mac and it' drains USB port... Dead phone.

For my part Apple, I'm a patient guy. I have no less than 3 apple Macbook pro's in the house an Apple TV along with various other iPhones and iPods and an iPad.

Right now? I'm FURIOUS. I have my iPhone 4 which is still in mint condition upgraded to iOS 7 and use it beside my bed for an alarm clock. Charges fine...... no problem. I turn off EVERY conceivable option and the phone won't stay charged for more than 2 days on ULTIMATE standby? I don't want to hear that there is a battery problem or some other problem with phone. This same phone set up the same way would stay on stand by for 2 weeks minimum without having to charge it. Now 2 days? and this change happens overnight after updating to your new iOS?

I've heard of nothing but problems from my friends and I refuse to buy a new phone when there is no way I should have to do that. I work in IT for a living in I know how this stuff works. FIX YOUR CRAP SOFTWARE or I'll stop buying your products. So choked.

Okay I figured this out! So everyone lesson up!

remove all usb cords in your computer/mac

plug your usb cord into the computer

hold down your iphone home button for 20 seconds before pluging it into the computer

still holding the home button plug your iphone into the computer, keep holding the home button for an other 10 seconds

after this your iphone should be charging

Ok guys and girls

Anyone else have any ideas about the dead brick syndrome thats just affected my Iphone 4. Funnily enough, I too upgraded to the much vaunted IOS 7 recently. Phone was working perfectly earlier tonight, picked it up an hour or so later, without having connected it to phone charger or laptop, and its now a useless piece of high technology paper weight.

I have tried the 'Hard resets' mentioned here (plugging in to socket while holding home button & the one above) but nothing!

Any other ideas would be much appreciated.

Apple, you have had a lot of my money over the years so have the decency to get this sorted or warn people!

Glad I didn't download it to the IPad.

Question for everyone.

Was your iPhone 4/4s originailly purchased through a cellular service provides like AT&T, or Verizon or Apple Store butr for a specific provider (i.e. locked)?

Or did you acquire it via third party before taking it to the ceulluar service provider of choice (i.e. unlocked)?

Talking to a few folks in person who have iPhone 4/4s and upgraded to IOS 7, the only ones that have this problem started life as 'unlocked'. The only complaint for those with locked phones acquired via AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile is the change-up in the behavior of built-in applications .. no battery issues at all.

evanbay's DIY fix above worked for me. Mine was dying but not dead yet. It may be the fix only works if the battery has at least enough power to turn the phone on fully. If evanbay's fix this didn't work for you and your battery was totally dead then I suggest you get the battery charged via external charger or via someone elses working phone and then try again.

This same thing happened to me. After the uprgrade my phone would never charge and now it is a brick. Took it to Apple and was told it was out of warranty so I would have to buy a new phone! I was so furious I had to just leave. It blows my mind how Apple creates an uprgrade and then when THEIR uprgrade screws their customers phone's up they refuse to help if you didn't buy the extended warranty. You would think they would actually stand behind the product just as a car company does if there is a recall on something! Anyways needless to say Apple has lost me as customer... Electronics are expensive I can't see giving Apple anymore of my money when customer satisfaction is such a low priority.

Update: I have tried pretty much every tip listed on the internet, including restoring as a new phone. I've deleted most of my photos, songs and podcasts. I've reduced motion and turned off data and documents and background updates. The one thing that has made a real difference was to go to Settings|General|Reset|Reset all settings. I lost a lot of personalized settings but for the first time since the upgrade to iOS 7 my battery lasted most of the day. I still have problems with lag -- while typing and both music and podcasts will stop and start. I haven't heard a single uninterrupted song since the upgrade. (And yes I've deleted and reinstalled over and over.). But at least the battery is holding a charge again.
