I called Apple Support and they helped me resolve the issue. What needed to be done was to reinstall iOS 7 and set it up as a new iPad, do not restore from previous back-up, and then re download the iBooks App from the App Store, then go to your iTunes on your Mac or PC and go to preferences / devices - and check the box that says prevent ipods, iphones, ipad from syncing automatically. Then plug in your iPad, and when your in iTunes go to your books and check the box that says to sync selected books, and check off your PDF's you want to sync with your iPad, and then sync. The iBooks App doesn't crash anymore!!!

According to the Tech there is a glitch with the iBooks App when upgrading to iOS7.

I hope this helps and I hope I made myself clear enough. I have never responded with answers before.

Unfortunately, Apple support did not solve the problem, they just figured a work around for you. Although, I am glad you are up and going.

I have a smiliar problem where my 3rd generation iPad running iOS 7.0.2 and iBooks v3.1.3 (1929) crashes only when set to the PDFs collection. It does not crash when viewing Books or Purchased Books. I have determined that it was a specific .PDF file which was causing iBooks to crash. I found this by removing the .PDF files one by one from my iPad using iTunes, sync'ed, and relaunched iBooks. When I removed the file titled 2011FordSync_OwnersManual.pdf, iBooks no longer crashes.

While I have not found the specific root cause to the problem, I have identified the file that's specifically causing my iBooks to crash. Please use my response as a datapoint, not a solution...

I'm having the same problem which wasn't fixed by any of the above suggestions. The workaround that worked for me is as follows. Go to iTunes and de-select all of your pdf books (you can leave your e-books selected as this problem only applies to pdfs). Now sync with your ios device. You should find that after this sync with all pdfs de-selected you are able to open iBooks without crashing. Now go back to iTunes and gradually add back your pdf books by selecting and syncing a few at a time. In between each sync test to see if iBooks is working fine. This way you will eventually isolate the individual pdf book(s) that are causing the problem. Leave these out of your library until Apple fixes the bigger problem which, hopefully if they are monitoring these forums, shouldn't take long.
