Wifi greyed out on iphone 4s with ios 7

i got the same issue. i already contact apple care told me is a new issue and they're investigating.

for now, i found no solution (i tried also to downgrade and reinstall, or renew network setting etc).

may i ask you if under setting>general>info you still have the wifi mac addess?

because in case u have no wifi mac address, it's only the wifi module stuck for high temperature, and u only need to cold it fast and it start working again. if u still have the mac addess is my same situation.

from the iphone configuration utility i got this log (and you can see that the wifi driver cannot be found from the system) :

I am having the same issue as well, which began when I downloaded the previous operating system. I spoke with Apple Customer Service in July and also tried a full iPhone restore. That didn't resolve the issue. The Customer Service representative said the issue might be fixed when the new operating system iOS7 was released in the fall. I just downloaded it, and the wi-fi is still grayed out. Could this be a hardware versus a software issue in the 4S?

on the 6.1.3 update i don't get any problem (but i see on forums many people does).

anyway, im pretty sure that causes may be:

so i think that eightball.apple.com should be an intranet (not internet) addess for apple developers to download or build software parts- but anyway for an end-user is not possible to write file direct on the phone's firmware.

2) this error, cause a wrong wifi module handling so the wifi fries. in fact, after i try downgrate to 6.1.3 or reinstall in DFU mode (recovery) the ios 7, the log only says "Sep 20 09:03:29 MobileGestaltHelper[77] <Error>: WiFi: Consulting "no-sdio-devices" property.Sep 20 09:03:29 MobileGestaltHelper[77] <Error>: WiFi: "no-sdio-devices" property not found."

so i think that for now i can only try to change the wifi chip on the logic board.

may i ask you if on settings>general>info you still see the mac address? because, on other forums, i found that in case u have no mac address (so the wifi is completely turned off) only need to find the "right temperature" to restart the wifi function.

in other case (so wifi greyed but mac address is ok) we are in same situation.

if u wanna try, u can download the apple iphone configuration tool and see on the panel "console" what error your wifi is pointing out.

so if u still have mac address, we're on same page.

i can told you what I tried until now:

1) downgrade to iOS 6.1.3

2) reinstalling iOS 7.0

3) heat and cold down the wifi chip

4) DFU restoring to iOS 6.1.3 and 7

5) restore several backup of settings

6) initializing and/or restore network factory setting

7) initializing and/or restore ALL factory setting

8) other and repeatly phone inizialization procedure

until now, nothing seems work

So i suggest you to take the iphone to the apple customer care and/or wait for an iOS 7 update that can fix the situation.

on next days i will try other procedures and i will let you know if them works;

but anyway, don't try to open/breck the phone because it can damage it at all, and most important it can not be safety for you.

another suggestion is to take the phone to a phone recovery shop so a technician can help you to fix the phone (but probably it is not only a software fix, it will need to change something in hardware).

i hope that apple will fix this or propose to customers an exchange with a new/regenerate phone.

after put the phone into freezer for 20 minutes (turned off), the wifi start again 🙂

(i read something about that on forums but i can't believe it really works).

anyway this solution is only temporary because after a couple of hourse the phone is not able to connect again on a wifi network. i will try to downgrade again to check if this solution will be not only temporary.

i know this can be very hurtful for the phone 😀

My iphone 4S can use WIFI after take hairdryer(hot) go to top iphone 5-10 min.

If your wifi is greyed out do the following:

1) Put your phone on a plastic bag and then in the fridge (not the freezer!).

Wait around 20 minutes to take it out.

2) The moment you take it out reset your network settings.

When the phone turns on, your wifi wont be greyed out.

But...

The problem you might have is that it wont pick up any networks at all. Which is my case.

What happened with me is really the same except Wifi was working for almost a day but suddenly both Wifi and Bluetooth has stopped at once please any advice????

anyway, this solution seems to be only temporary, because after some hours, the wifi is still selectable in the settings menu, but cannot find or connect to wifi networks.

I see that anyway for now is a good workaround for me because the iphone see as the wifi comoponent is "Ok even if it cannot find networks" that means the ios doesnt not speed down or stuck in process where wifi settings are checked by the software (As example: if u have the wifi greyed out in ios 7 and u try to go on setting>general>info , or u try to take a picture with localization ON, the phone speed down or stuck.

having the wifi NOT greyed out - even if not working - the phone works fine in all other function).

i also see that the bluetooth signal seems to be "affected" to this situation (even if is still working but with some loss of signal) , this suggest me that probably the issue may be not located in the wifi chip, but shoud be the wifi/blue antenna.

if i have any other news i will write here.

Turn off 'find my iphone', wifi will return

I had the same problem and it was right after I got Find My Iphone

So this is the problem so you have to get rid of find my iphone, to do that

1. delete the find my iphone app

2. Settings - Icloud - then switch i cloud off

3. power off your iphone and then your wifi should be working when it comes back on

in iOS 7 "find my iphone" is still not an app, but is a part of the operating system, so u can't remove.

anyway, even if deselected the wifi still not work, and from the log seems to be not relelated to this feature.

I have this EXACT problem too. The Wifi is generally greyed out, then after restarting it about 50 times, updating it 12 time, standing on my head and doing the twist it comes back but only briefly.

I'm spending a fortune on 3G because of it!

My bluetooth is also affected. HEEEELP!
