Wifi greyed out on iphone 4s with ios 7

Hi, I have iphone 4s, before when I update my ios to 6.1.3 I got a problem connecting to my wifi it was greyed out. I researched some tips how to solve the problem still it doesn't work. They said that if you update your ios into ios 7 the issue will be solved, however I update my ios now into ios 7, I still have the same issue, tried some troubleshooting again still problem doesn't solve, help please I cannot use my wifi. I just got my phone last year and I am having this problem, I love apple products but this is a big inconvenience to everyone who is having the same problem, help. Thanks.

i have the similar issue as yours, but i found something wierd. my wifi is grey but my Bluetooth is working (NOT normally).

It seem that the signel is not strong. When i try to make it detect/pair with my bluetooth earpiece i have to make it very near (less than 10 cm apart), then it can detect. i.e. if i let them to be about more than 10 cm apart, my iphone will not detect the earpiece.


Could this be antennal issue, but u mention u have replace the antennal. was it working ??

the last thing i do was the replace of rear bottom antenna (wifi-bluetooth-buzzer piece) but it still doesn't work.


i'm wating for the arriving of new wifi chip ic (the real chip on logic board) to replace it, and then i hope it works again, but for now I have no good news.


as soon as i got it (i think on the end of next week) i update here my results.


the only thing that for sure is working is that if i cool down the phone (in the fridge) the wifi work again for a couple of hours (and this is the real mistery of all this story).

just another point: the downgrade to ios6 is the first thing i tried (because after you update, you have about 2 day to downgrade via itunes), but the wifi still doesn't work.

(so exactly as in ios7), so i think that if you are able to see the wifi mac address, but it doesn't work, the chip is compromised.

ho thye666, here a last thing.


also in my case, the bluetooth is working even if, like i said in my first post on this topic, i see that it is working worse than in ios6.


i have handfree kit in my car, and i never had signal problem to use it, but after ios7 (and the wifi issue) the signal start to be "not-so-good" with some loss of performance.


so i'm pretty sure that those things are releated.

I had this exact problem wifi greyed out and I was advised to backup and restore - in the process lost 45 video clips - and then wait for the new IOS 7 which would rectify the problem i.e. greyed out wifi, I duly upgraded only by plugging into my computer and using the wifi from the old 7 year old laptop as I had no wifi with the all singing all dancing Iphone 4s - expectation was high but unfortunately epic fail. During this time I used up my complete data allowance (never happened before) and read copious amounts of posts online by people experiencing exactly the same problem - so I took the advice of one post which still is a mystery to me - heat the earpiece for about 3 minutes turn off phone and turn back on again - hey presto wifi restored - WIERD but this was a week ago and it is still working... just saying....

I am really annoyed and dissapointed in Apple with the way they are behaving over this. Can they not just supply a fix? Or just let us roll back to iOS6?. I am seriously considering moving both mine and my business phones to android.


I did have some luck with the iOS7.0.2 update in that the wifi worked for a few hours and then stopped. I have tried the restore again a number of times and it brings the wifi back for a limited time. However my bluetooth is gone completely. I spend a lot time on the road and without bluetooth I cannot connect to my car kit.

Hi all,


Another update from me :


Today i decided try the hair dryer system so i removed the back panel of iphone, remove the emi shield on the wifi chip( so the upper back of phone) and i dry for 60 second.... So now im writing here by my iphone wifi.... I will told you for how much time it works, but now is clear that is only in the temperature difference the issue.

I am having the exact same problem on my iPhone 4S after installing iOS7


Today I installed iOS7 and since the upgrade the wifi is now greyed out and I can not get it switched on anymore.

Tried several restarts, have reset the network settings but all to no avail.


However Bluetooth still does work, but the BT sound quality has drastically deteriorated since the upgrade to iOS7 to the extent that people can no longer understand me, making BT no longer usuable.

(until this morning the use of Bluetooth was flawless and crystal clear using my Plantronics Voyager headset)


So far in this discussion I see no response from Apple in this issue.

So it seems we are all out in the dark on possible solutions which only Apple can provide.

My iPhone is now a little over a year old and I find it hard to accept that Apple would not assist her customers in solving a problem caused as a result of the iOS7 upgrade.


Furthermore I NEED my wifi when travelling abroad and I fly to Asia next week. Without a working iPhone with wifi I can not communicate with my office.

So if Apple does not come to the rescue I'll have no choice but to purchase a new phone. And I can assure you, in that case it will mostlikely not be an iPhone.



Therefor my plea here on this Apple website to the Apple support team:

Please come to our rescue and assist your customers in finding a solution to this problem!!

My iPhone 4S is going in for service tomorrow after having tried all the tricks (except anything involving temperature changes) to no avail. Since updating it to ios 7, the wifi button is greyed out, I have no bluetooth and no reception to the point where the Apple representative I spoke to over the phone asked to ring me back on my home line and added the reception issue to my file.


Thankfully in Europe it's covered for 2 years so barring any unforeseen problems, I should either be getting a fixed phone or a new phone.


So disappointed that a company like Apple could make such a huge mistake!

My wifi became greyed out today. Took it to Apple and they said it was because of the update. Out of warranty so I have to pay $200 for a new one. AT&T, same thing. I am a developer with several apps for iOS, now I DO NOT suggest getting an iPhone. I will probably be breaking my contact and getting a Android, and stop offering iOS apps. Its sad when a company releases an update that breaks their device and they want you to pay for it. Until now I was all about the Apple, now it looks as though its best to move away from them.

Whoever you talked to at the Apple Store or AT&T Store was incorrect. The iOS 7 update did not damage your phone. Your hardware was defective, and the process of the update (not the update itself) over-stressed the wi-fi chip that was already defective, from date of purchase.


Your device was out of warranty, and you reported a defect after the warranty expired. You got a replacement for a significant disocunt, and your warranty got reinstated for 90 days.


If you had reported the defect before the warranty expired, you would have gotten a free replacement.

That reply about before and after the warranty is all well and good except when the phone works absolutely fine before an update the sends it over the edge. How would one know there is a defect in the phone when it works fine? why would you question it? Apple quality and all... Those of us having problems found out about these defects AFTER Apple issued an update that somehow set the defect in motion. Regardless as to whether the defect was there before the update or not, it's the update that some how activated the defect. Plus, how can Apple justify producing defective phones and not replacing them? Either way, the fault lies with Apple and they should be responsible for it.


I'm considering myself lucky for the moment because I live in the EU and the laws cover me but yes, it may be time for a switch from Apple the next time around.
