There is only one permanently solution to fix this problem. Take your phone to some professional phone service to exchange wifi module. In Poland it cost about 80$.

It will also permanently remove any support from Apple for the device.

I have same problem, after hours spent with Apple technician and their conclusion is my phone's hardware problem, I tried hair-dryer-solution, it solved my problem. I think my next phone will be Android phone.

    - reset network settings

    - back up and restore. test issue before restoring back up.

    - get phone replaced

    in that order

Hey guys gonna tell my story with this problem, at first i solved with draining the battery but that lasted for a couple of days. Then tried the freezing method (worked for a couple of hours), next i tried the heating method (worked for a couple of days also).

Ok so here what i did to make my wifi work again and some tips to keep it that way: i use the heating/freezing method. Heated the phone on until the temperature warning came up then turned my phone off and putted on plastic bag in the freezer for 20 min, tooked out of the freezer and waited 30 min to reach his normal temperature (i doesnt have to be 30 min, just feel when your phone is back to his normal temperature).

Then voilá my wifi its working again perfectly, it has been two weeks ever since i did the heating/freezing method and even when i updated to 7.1 my wifi continued working, and i gotta say i´ve been using my phone a lot because im on vacations right now.

Now on another subject ever since i updated to ios 7 my 4s always seems to overheat a bit (specially when playing games) that i think its the problem causing the wifi to go away, but i think apple adressed this issue with the 7.0.6 update because ever since that update my phone stoped overheating.

Here are some tips to keep working: try no to leave it on all the time, only use it when you need to, dont overcharge it (sometimes this causes the phone to heat up) when it reaches 100% disconect your phone, if you are going to play games turn off your wifi and after your are done playing let the phone rest a bit before you turn the wifi on.

Hope this helps, sorry for my bad english and the long post.

    Saludos de Venezuela!

    Thanks for posting eolivar.

I'm on my 6th 4S phone, every one of them covered under the warranty, so I have not had to do the heat/freeze.

My current phone has lasted two months now and I think either I got a "new batch" of unaffected phones or the fact that I do what you say.. not keeping it on all the time, and not letting it overcharge.  I don't play games, so that's not it.

I have one month left on my 90 day warranty. Hopefully it'll be good till my contract is up.

I was told by the Apple genius bar that I should call Apple Care if it does happen again and ask for a special accomodation in my case. Hopefully I won't need to.

    Blessings,

Hi Guys, im really disappointed with apple... is that a new Strategy for earning money or what?

Have the same problem with greyed wifi. Used the Heating Freezing method and it worked...for a while, now having problems again...once its working once its grey and it wont turn on!

For those who are thinking its a hardware problem..oh common...apple just wants to sell the iphone 5, its definetely a software problem or bug or whatever they created!

Hope they give the right update und fix this @@@@ soon!

    Greetings

You are right at the dot, what your comment about the respond on this issue.

Look back at the history, Steve Job fantastic final smart phone is on......you right again....is 4S. And Tim think he is so smart by hurrying lunching the 5 to impress the Apple Fan, his intension is to overtake Job legacy on Apple product.

But again within the short period, he again hurrying lunch 5S, that is a improved and can be said not a bad phone, but too fast as 5 have not had the time to warm up yet, you know the feel....chase you off the chair that suppose to be first come forst serve. Tim actaully kicking his own but by doing so, he easily can sell a couple of billion of the 5 and hold the 5S litttle longer.

The worse is he do it together with the most faild 5C, and it has cause everything up side down, soooooo....when 4S have problem like everyone else does (wifi gray out), do you think he wanted to care about it or he can shout at all the long Steve Job Fan go to ****, as he is standing very near to it right now as we are talking.... any how, just go Samsung or Sony if you still can get out from Apple. Good Luck.

    Regrads,

    Brian

So, Apple is trying to sell a device they no longer manufacture for sale?  You can't buy a new iPhone 5 from Apple anymore.  They've been discontinued.

Additionally, this wi-fi greyed out issue has been around for a long, long time...  including while Jobs was CEO.

My iPhone 4S did once again did  lose it's wifi connection after running perfectly for about 8 weeks.

I was streaming Pandora Radio via bluetooth connection at the time, ( not sure if that has anything to do with why the wifi dropped out again, but I thought I'd mention it anyway)

But!.... I was able to get everything up and running perfectly again by simply grabing my girlfriend's hair dyer heated it up again for about 5 - 7 minutes ( the over heated message even appeared this time) then powered it off, warped it in a plastic bag, stuck it back in the freezer for 15 minutes, took it out of the freezer, powered it back on, and Abracadabra it works perfectly again!!!

Phone has been running perfectly AGAIN for about a week now.

One strange thing this time after fixing it for a second time is that the the little WiFi symbol no longer shows at the top of the screen, but the wifi connection and everything IS RUNNING PERFECTLY!

If all I've got to do once in a while, is spend about 20 minutes with a hairdryer and a freezer to keep my iPhone 4S running perfectly.....well I'm as happy as a pig in s*** :-)

And please no comments about how I have now voided my apple support etc. I never had any to begin with  (it's a 2nd hand phone and  I really  couldn't care less about warranty issues etc etc etc..... The phone works, and that's all that matters to me!
