excatly the same problem here, have not found a solution..
The apps are deleted in iTunes but stay on my phone and when i hit the x to delete the app, nothing happens..
Attempt to delete the app as indicated above: hold down one app icon, icons will start to wiggle, X's appear in the upper-corner of some apps. click the X of the app you want to delete, select 'Delete' in the message that appears.
It will look like nothing has happened. Now go to App Store and try to redownload the same app. There it may say 'Open' Instead of 'Install', select what ever is there. A fresh copy of the app will be loaded again on you iphone and the icon will become clear (not black or dark). Now repeat the first steps to delete an app (i.e. make the x's show, click the x of the app you want to delete) it will be deleted/removed completely).
This worked on my iphone, hope it will work with you too.
Hi,
I am having a weird problem, on my iPhone5 running ios7:
after holding the apps, the little x on the upper left corder appears, but the phone becomes unresponsive. it won't do anything so I cannot delete the app. If it is in a opened folder, I cannot close the folder.
Tried resetting the settings in Restriction many times, No success. Do you have any suggestion?
Thanks
This will solve your and the latests problem, so I had the same.
I went to the App Store, Updates and Purchased menu. Look for the original stucked app and redownload it. Then will disappear and now you can download again and use.
Hope will work all of you!
This worked great for one app I had this issue with but I have a discontinued app as well and can't go thus route. Any further suggestions?
I have the answer - no App Store, it all happens through your phone. It took me a while to find it after a lot of frustration and yet it's pretty simple! It requires going into settings > general > restrictions > enter your pass code > Deleting Apps - turn on (mine was off for some reason). Here's an article - follow part 2 of 1 and you will be all set: http://www.wikihow.com/Delete-an-iPhone-App.
Hey, if you want to delete mass apps, you can try iPhone data eraser, I used it yesterday to clean the unwanted apps off my phone. I like trying new apps, ha. Here is the guide, you may learn more from it.
Hi, Plug your phone to your computer and delete it using iTunes. Then when you hold down the app on your iPhone, the X will appear and you can delete it.
Hi, Plug your phone to your computer and delete it from iTunes. Once done, you can then hold down the app on your iphone and the X will be in view, and you can then delete it.
Had similar issue - couldn't delete greyed out app in iOS 7. Solved as follows.
Went to App Store and searched for that app. Clicked "open" button in App Store (knew it was on my iphone). App opened. App icon then went solid and I was able to delete.
Hope that is of some help...
To remove an app completely from my iTunes, I opened iTunes, and then under library selected Apps.
Then I went to the List option and highlighted the App I wanted to remov and did a right click to reveal a delete option OR just hit delete after I highlighted.
A box popped up asking if I was sure I wanted to delete or that was that. Gone!
This worked perfectly. Thank you. It was fustrating trying to delete an app and it wouldn't disappear. When I downloaded the app again, it disappear.
Thanks

The right answer! Updates change things. Like always turning on Blutooth and other unwanted actrions.
Thanks!
If you don't see the"X" icon beside your downloaded apps as mentioned out that is related with restrictions option. You have to enable the setting by turning the Deleting Apps option from OFF to ON. To get it: settings > general > restrictions > enter your pass code > Deleting Apps - turn OFF to ON
I would to point that there are more than one method to delete iPhone app, one of these through Usage setting is very easy and practical the post linked below contains these methods, thanks
I have just purchased the new iPhone 7 and cannot delete apps. These are not an Apple pre-installed apps. None of the posts suggested here have worked - I suspect because none of the answers refer to the new iPhone 7 that was only released last week. Please help!
