The only thing that really changed about deleting off the iPhone 7, is that rather than holding down, you literally lay your finger on the icon, and do not push. Pushing activates features in 3D Touch. This should work for you.

Just lightly press (don't mash it like iPhone 6 and before) and the X will appear like normal.

I was able to remove an unknown, "waiting", grayed out app by performing the following steps:

I don't know which of these actually fixed the issue, but this is the order in which I did them.

Go to Settings>General>Reset

Reset Home Screen Layout (this may move the offending app, but changed nothing else).

Reset Network Settings (no change).

Reset All Settings (this enabled me to activate the "shakey screen" and the "X" to delete the offending app!

I had used iTunes to restore a backup to my new iPhone 7 and this "phantom app" wasn't even in my app list in iTunes!

I have no idea where it came from, but it's gone now!

I have a new iPhone 7 and have IOS 10.1.1 update. Can't delete apps. When you touch and hold the the app all you get is the option to share the app. It doesn't start to wiggle and get an X like it did before. Any ideas?

If you read back a little, you cannot press the app down in the devices that have 3D Touch. You can only lay your finger gently on the app and hold it there until it starts to wiggle. If you are seeing the context menu show up, then you are pressing too hard.

You have to touch the screen lightly and you can delete what ever app that u want

Press lightly on the app you want to delete and once the "x" appears on it, click delete. If you press hard, the app will ask you to share instead
