iOS 7 keep turned off my iCloud settings and asking my password

Hi,

I upgrade to iOS 7 the day before yesterday. Everything's fine until yesterday's morning. When I received a text message, I found it's shown under the tel number, rather than names from my contact list. Then I found all my setting in iCloud were turned off. I turned them on, and everything's fine after that. But today, it turned off all my settings again and stars to keep asking me sign-in my iCloud account. I checked my iCloud account settings, it seems correct for me. I can correctly get all the informations from iCloud. But it just keep asking my passwords...

Any ideas about this?

Thanks very much in advance,

Hi Josh, yes you are right, just a couple of hours after I posted that 7.0.2 is the solution, the issue reappeared again, it flushed all my contacts, notes, reminders etc.

The worst part is the assigned ring tone and SMS for a contact even dissapeared. It doesn't come back automatically like the contacts, notes etc when u switch icloud back on.

I don't know wat is triggering icloud to switch off automatically.

I don't have a pass code, maybe that could be the reason.

I'll put a pass code and observe and update u guys soon.

Passcode won't matter. I've had one on since iOS7 was released.

And FYI, I got the verify password prompt today. Knew it was only a matter of time. I am glad it did work at least once. Maybe it will work moving forward, just less frequently and with the annoying prompt until Apple fixes this.

And as I've stated before, I'm convinced now that the iCloud issue is low memory related. This would explain why it occurs at random times for each of us. Whenever you use a certain app or process that chews up enough RAM, it panics the OS and iCloud shuts down. Agree the custom ringtone and SMS text for contacts getting dumped is super annoying. It's also the reason no one on iPhone 5 or 5S had this issue. Much faster processor and way more RAM. Also, the diagnostic results point towardsort issues. So whether it's a processor intensive game like Clash of Clans or any other RAM hungry app....it's going to be a reoccurring issue until Apple provides a patch.

Since deleting my iCloud account off my iPhone, deleting the iCloud backup and then doing a complete restore and restore from backup and logging into iCloud and turning iCloud backup on, I haven't seen the iCloud password prompts, though I did have iCloud turn itself off after playing Injustice - Gods Among Us for about 10 minutes (same game that caused the problem for me in the first place).

I decided to run a test by turning off Documents & Data for the game that usually triggers the problem and I was able to play for about 10 minutes without having iCloud turn off.

I'm not sure if that's a "fix" or not though as since I've done the restore, my iPad 2 has a tendancy to completely lock up in a hard freeze, requiring a hard reset to recover. I've had 3 of those in 7 days, the last one being today a little while before I tested the game.

So I don't know if turning off D&D for the game helped, doing the hard reset helped, or I was just lucky. You can try turning off D&D for any apps that use a large amount of memory though. That or just reboot before playing them.

I have a feeling though, if you are getting iCloud password prompts when not using Apps that use a large amount of memory and save to iCloud that the iCloud cache data on your device is likely corrupt at that point. You can try deleting the iCloud backup and iCloud account from your device, rebooting and adding iCloud and turning the backup back on, but it's likely once corrupted, it will require a "Erase All Data" or restore to "fix" the corrupted local data.

Morac have you been in contact with apple at all?

I did contact Apple support last week regarding a different issue and mentioned this problem and the person said he'd never heard of this problem before. The problem is that my iPad 2 is outside support so it's next to impossible to get past the first level of support, who from my experience aren't really any more knowledgable than posters in the forums here. The second level isn't that great either, but at least the problem gets documented at that level.

My experience with support though is if there's a problem, they will either claim it's hardware and require a swap (in warranty only) or say it's software and to wait for an update. Contact AppleCare regarding a software problem is usually fruitless. You can try http://www.apple.com/feedback/ but that's not likely to be any better. Even reporting problems at http://bugreport.apple.com/ isn't really all that helpful.

Unfortunately I have a feeling the "fix" will be to get an iPad, iPhone, etc that has more memory. One can hope iOS 7.1 will fix this as it might be being caused by one of the other crash/instability/iMessage related bugs in iOS 7, but who knows if it will.

I see.

Your point is logic.

As I haven't played INJUSTICE for quite a while, and am sure the day the icloud turned off automatically after I played the game.

But I thought the game should crash when the RAM overloads. INJUSTICE crashed for me at about 5 times so far , let's say around 5% of total times I played.

Anyhow let's hope 7.1 or 7.0.3 fixes this , as until date there is no workaround :(.

So far no responses from Apple 😟

Last week I did another attempt to run iOS 7 on my 4S as fresh DFU and restore from my iCloud account which ends with @me.com, this morning the problem resurface again, iCloud backup password popup, Mail, Notes, Contacts, Reminders, all got turned off. Find My iPhone occasionally. Just the same as my last time with iOS 7.

My iPad 3 still going fine with iOS 7 so far. I think might be the low memory on 4S device is the cause of this problem. With my iPhone 4, most of the blur effects on 4S were disabled by iOS 7 so may be more memory for the apps and the problem doesnt show up.

Same problem here, iCloud settings keep turning off randomly, i receive a pop up asking for my password.

Latest ios for my iPad mini (7.0.2)

Tried everything, power off/on, reset, deleted settings for iCloud, reset network settings, restored iPad.

Nothing works, it has to be an iCloud issue.

I have also Clash of Clans installed, but this thing happen totally random... Wether the game is "on" or not.

It is becoming way annoying... And frustrating.

Hi,

I have deleted from my iPhone 4S the CoC and the problem never apperaed again. It is more than a week, that I do not have the symptoms at all. I have 7.0.2.

I beleive that the game is pretty much related to the problem. Maybe it is the low memory, may be it is something else. I can not say for sure.

I would like to notice that, CoC even though the palyer is not playing the game, the game it self uses the push notification (game center) in order to receive notification of the attacks, or other game notifications. I want to say by that, that the CoC always is doing something in the background. You do not have to play the game all the time in order to have the problem.

By the way, I have nevered deleted the icloud account from the phone, I have never changed my passord, I have not done any restores, I have not been using the DnD at all, I have never reset any setting in the phone. All I did, was to remove the game CoC.

Just to be sure that the CoC is related to the problem, I am going to start playing other games in order to see the behaviour.

I will keep you informed..

Oct 21, 2013 10:41 PM in response to harenc

I'm lmao bc you guys think its still CoC, DND plus any other app thats cuasing this issue.

I had a long chat with these two BestBuy people since the Apple rep thats at this BestBuy is off on Vacation for the week before the holiday rush comes.

These two BestBuy people really knew and they knew what i was talking about too.

One guy had to leave to fix a few security beepers, the new guy (badged trainer) talked to me for a while and finnaly got to a solution bc he had the same problems as i had/have with the rest of you guys are having.

Its been 3-4 days since I've talked to him with the solution what could be the cuase of it. He suggested to turn off my iCloud Backup & myself without his suggestion is that I turned off Passbook as well bc idk how to use it and how you get stuff to the app so I'm good without it so I turned it off with turning off iCloud Backup.

This trainie person has an iPhone 5S 7.0.2 and he has said that he hasn't had any problems of iCloud asking for a password for almost 3 weeks

What he says what this could be which really makes a whole lot of sense is theres a configuration error with the iCloud trying to resync/reconnect to the iCloud and reason why for keep asking for the iCloud Passsword is mostly for the iCloud Backup. If it can't connect or whatever it is, it drops it and reasks you to put the password in constantly.

Before I did this, idk what i did to make it half stop, what i mean is that everything would stay on but my Find My iPhone would turn off, for those to remeber what I have is I have the iPod Touch 5G 64G's.

I would say right now is to Backup your iDevice right now throu iCloud if ya like, I didnt bc even thou BestBuy gives out free wifi, but i had about 20% battery left plus the extra hard sending data on a public wifi with all the devices connected to it, I didnt and so I'm-a gonna wait to see at least 3 weeks or so before I do a backup with iCloud, havent done an iTunes yet since doing this.

But I really dont think its the apps problem cuasing issues to iOS 7 and Do Not Disturb either bc I havent touch my apps except the main ones and iBook for magazine and hadnt had any problems yet.

So if I dont see any problems like this Trainie BestBuy going on 3 weeks without iCloud Backup, then thats gotta be what the problem is, not your backup but the connection to iCloud Backup is the problem.

PS. on a regular bases, it would turn off

-Find My iPhone

-iCloud Backup

Renableing it cuases

-My Photos to be backed up and another app to which i want them to stay disabled to be backup

What I also added for these two BestBuy people is when the password prompts me, if I hit cancled, that might be when it would turn everything in the iCloud turned off BUT BUT BUT big but is if I decided to put my password in anyway, would that disables my Find My iPhone? vise versa

I havent tested this theory yet & should've made more noticed to that, but I dont want to test it out bc I would liked to stay away for this nightmare recurring like the rest of you guys liked to do.

Hi James,

I agree with most of what you say, and I totally think this is the problem just like it has been mentioned in this thread previously:

but the connection to iCloud Backup is the problem.

The thing is some of have observed - me included - is that disabling DnD will help. It does not solve the problem, but alleviates the symptoms; the frequency for the password prompts seems to be lower. Also, you are the first one (didn't check though) who has mentioned that this is an issue with anything else than an iPhone 4s.

Personally I think that 4s resources (CPU/RAM) are not enough to fully support the device and background tasks for the OS during normal operations, such as gaming. The OS panics, and it causes connection to break. Why it does not establish a connection automatically again properly beats me.

Also, turning off Find My iPhone and iCloud backup are NOT a solution, those are two key selling points for the i-devices. They simply have to work, so I'm still waiting for an official bug fix. That's what this is, a bug, nobody was claiming this was a problem before they installed IOS 7 (or 7.0.2).

So thanks for your input, but sadly there's no solution to be found. Yet.

Had a chat with Apple Support Team on their website and I linked the tech guy to this thread. What he told me are just all the steps that I've done before. He said he will pass this case to a Senior Advisor to look at. Hope his Senior Advisor will read all this and resolve the problem soon.

Today, all my notes, contacts, reminders are gone. Find My iPhone turned off again. So I had to rinse repeat all the step to reenable them LOL.
