iOS 7 iPhone 5 white blotch on top left corner of Screen

Had the exact same issue but no Google Maps. Looks like findogg had it right; it has to do with the length of the app name in the second column, second row. For me it was Personal Capital (shortened to Personal Cap). I moved it off the home screen, flash went away. Moved it back and it came back. It looks like a glitch in the animation as it zooms in, you can see the app name if you look carefully.

Wow--- well it seems mine was a long name. It was FlightRadar24. It was on the home screen second row, second column. I moved it over ONE spot and the shadow was gone. Moved it back and it came back. So I'll just keep it in the third spot! LOL

Really crazy but worked...

In my case it was the folder name located in the second row, second column was too long.

I move it one spot to the right and no more white blotch.

In my case it was appearing when unblocking using the finger print.

Im really amaze it really solve the problem.

BTW this is how it looked like I managed to capture it.

I tested and when folder name is 10 digits or longer you can replicate easy the white blotch.

Folder located in the second row second column.

And just need to change the folder name, block the phone access with fingerprint and voila! White blotch there.

I am also facing the same issue with the white spot on the top left corner.

I don't have any google application installed on my iPhone have tried to shuffle almost all the application on the screen (3rd) and it is still showing that white spot.

Look for any apps or folders that have more than 10 letters in name under the icon including spaces, like iplayer radio. Move them to outer edge of screen.

THis is crazy. Google Maps was indeed on second row second column. Just moved it and the problem is gone. Thanks guys

Nice suggestion guys! I'm on iOS 7.1.1 and I had never experienced that bug but this time I had the Google Maps app icon on the 2° page, 2° row, 2° column and I simply moved it to the right and it just works now, bug went away 😉

@Adam Cao Thank you so much!! It worked for me moving the 'Reminders' App on the second row but in the third column to the bottom. In Dutch the 'Reminders' is 'Herinneringen', so a very long word. Thnx!!

I am getting the white patch as well.

I have no google apps.

I have shuffled the apps but is still getting it randomly, most of time it is when unlocking and locking, but happens with app as well.

it seams to be only iphone 5.

i have iphone 5s with ios 7.1.2

For anyone else stymied and rooting around the third page of this thread for a definitive answer, it seems that overlong app names in either second or third spot of the second row cause this issue when closing apps launched indirectly (e.g. via Spotlight, Control Center, etc.) – see screen capture below from iPhone 5 running iOS 8.1.

Thanks to this thread I've finaly found a solution to this strange problem!. Got it on my iPhone 5 somewere around IOS 7.x and kept this anoying issue for long. Until today. Even got it when I installed my brand new 5S on IOS 8.2. Very frustrating. Solved it right away with the moving of Gmaps on the second line/third row. And thanks to you guys I've solved this finally. Apple didn't because it still exists in IOS 8.2. It's must be a zooming issue like the animation of Macquarian above. When I move gmaps to the second row on the same line; the white blur apears on the left. Now it's time to enjoy my new phone 🙂.
