Mac 10.8.5 - IOS7 Bluetooth Crisis

Seems to me there is a big problem with the new Apple OS upgrades killing Bluetooth! In my case on my MacBook.

I've been struggling with this for 2 days, since I upgraded to 10.8.5 which I needed to go to get the latest iTunes, which I needed to upgrade my iPhone and iPad to IOS7 . . . yes, right down the garden path I walked

MacBook Pro 17", early 2009.

After the 10.8.5 upgrade Bluetooth is Not Available, same as seanluck13.

-System Preferences: no sign of Bluetooth

-System Search: no sign of Bluetooth

-System Profile Information: Bluetooth: No Information Found

-So Bluetooth is absent, removed, not present -- AGHHHHH!!!!!

Apple BT keyboard and trackpad can't be used. MacBook trackpad is worn out and I get wrist strain trying to activate it!

I read on a forum that a fix was to reinstall the system over the internet after a CMD-OPT-R restart. Did that -- 5 HOURS LATER -- NO CHANGE, BLUETOOTH STILL ABSENT !@(%&( )TY(@Q#*!!

Please someone help me before I throw this Mac down the garbage shoot. At the moment that's only a fantasy.

I have the same problem. MBP 15", Early 2011, running 10.9, and iPhone 5 running 7.0.3. I use my phone to control keynote presentations, and now my MBP does not recognize my iPhone.

It is, since Apple produces bluetooth-enabled apps designed to control applications on their computers, clear that they intend consumers to be able to pair those two devices. I've been able to run presentations from my phone for years now, and losing that capacity now (the day before a presentation, to boot) is incredibly frustrating.

I'd love any advice you have.

You upgraded to 10.9 Mavericks and had the death of bluetooth problem? I originally started this discussion because I had the issue with the upgrade to 10.8.5 Just a few days after I posted that first comment, I upgraded in a way I don't remember ever seeing before. A "Supplemental Upgrade of 10.8.5 that didn't change the version number. This completely fixed my bluetooth problem although it sounds like others continued to have issues.

If you upgraded and had this issue with Mavericks, you're tellimg me that I'm going to have the same issue again when I upgrade! That means I'm not upgradeing to Mavericks until there is an update or two.

Can you please confirm your 10.9 status?

Sorry, just realized this isn't being posted as a reply to khowell which is how it's intended.

I'm so sorry to hear this and I thank you for the heads-up. I was just about to install Mavericks because it went so well with my work computer which is brand new. You have saved me from being plunged into bluetooth **** for a second time. I thought the problem was fixed and if I had repeated my last upgrade experience it would not have been pretty.

I comiserate with you. Apple never even acknoledged the issue as far as I know so they won't help you directly but untilmately it's up to them to get it fixed. Meanwhile I'm afraid you're in the twilight zone where bluetooth does not exist!
