Telstra iMessage Activation Problem Status

Thought I'd start a specifc topic relating to iPhones on the Telstra network that can't get iMessage and Facetime activated as the original thread is also dealing with other iMessage issues unrelated to Telstra.

Original discussion here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5318987?start=0&tstart=0

To summarise,

New iPhone5x and old phones updated to ios7 that needed to be activated for iMessage seems to be having problems registering their mobile number with Apple's iMessage (and Facetime) servers. Some people have got iMessage working with their Apple ID, but that isn't the problem, it's having their carrier number activated with iMessage.

If you have success with your Telstra phone please let us know on this discussion so we can check to see if ours is also working.

Well I'll be!!! Mine just activated too!!! Did the same thing..

Turned Messages off, Turned FaceTime off. Closed down all open apps and then turned the phone off. Left it off for about 10 minutes then turned it back on. Turned on Messages......it connected with my emails straight away but still said waiting to activate for phone number. After about 20 minutes or so my phone number activated!!!! I then turned on FaceTime and it actives after about 1 minute.

Only taken 3 1/2 days but finally it's activated.

Few days ago I upgraded my 4S to iOS7 and initially iMessage and FaceTime also didn't activated; then I tried turning off/on several times and suddenly it magically worked.

Then, on iPhone 5S launch day, I got 2 units, 1 for me and 1 for my wife. My wife's new 5S works flawlessly with iMessage and FaceTime activation. My 5S is still stuck waiting for activation until now. My wife and I use Telstra, under the same account, same plan. It's really strange that 1 phone can work normally and the other keep failing.

Already tried even resetting the phone, set as new phone, then restore from backup, still didn't work.

just have some patience, your talking about 2 days... try 3-4 days for the people that didnt get new phones...

from what i have read over on the Telstra forums, there was an issue with the Telstra servers that communicate with the Apple servers and apparently this is being resolved or has been resolved...

it will eventually work, i ended up turning off iMessage and Facetime off for 2-3mins (some people turning their phones off as well) and then turned iMessage and Facetime back on and it took my phone 45mins for it to finally activate...

good luck!

hey all

just saw this on the Telstra Servers posted 5mins ago 8:30am (Adelaide Time) from the Telstra Community Manger:

We apologise to any of our customers who were unable to access iMessage and Facetime on iOS7 over the weekend. We have modified our network settings and service should be restored for everyone.

So looks like the Telstra activation stuff should be resolved.

But my personal opinion if you dont see it getting activated, maybe flick the setting from on to off and back on and maybe give it a bit to see if it activates.

Cheers

Typical no-information response from Telstra. Treat customers like mushrooms.Could have said:

  • why did it occur
  • how did they fix it
  • how will they ensure it doesn't happen again>

At least they acknowledged it was their problem.

yea understandable... would love to hear what happened but truthfully im just glad it got fixed.

i feel for the people that dont have unlimited text at no costs, i pay enough to get free SMS so never really bothered me. I was more annoyed that the full features of my phone/software was not working as it should.

i come from an IT background and i get what these guys are on about etc. but it does happen, things can just stop working without any knowledge to the admins.

i dont work for Telstra but if you want more information maybe head here and ask:

It's all about turning 4G off to get it going.

Mine worked staright away after that.

1. go to Settings > messages>Send and receive (uncheck your email address)

2. go back to previous screen and turn off imessage

3. go back a screen and go to facetime - turn off face time

4. go back a screen and go to Celluar > turn off 4G connection

5. switch off the phone

6. restart the phone

7. go to settings and turn on imessage. It should activate it

8. go to facetime and enable it

9. enable 4G connection again

10. Done !!!
