Find my Friends doesn't work after IOS 7 update

We use find my friends for our entire family to monitor kids locations, etc. Since updating to IOS 7, one of the phones only shows it's location sporadically - otherwise says location not available.

Have verified location services are turned on, nothing is blocked, etc.

This phone was updated to IOS 7 over wifi (vs. through iTunes) - one other phone had some minor (unrelated) issues after updating over wifi that were resolved by doing a factory reset & updating from iTunes - wondering if that could be cause of the issue here as well. Anyone else encountering issues with FMF?

I do not have the same results as nobius. It does not matter that we don't force quit. The minute the app is not the primary app opened and being used on the phone the phone disappears from Find Friends. We have tried it multiple times. It is still showing in the background if you double tap to see all the apps that are active.

Also, I don't know the relevance but the phone that we have that is not working with Find Friends works perfectly with Find My iPhone. I certainly don't claim to understand the mechanics or techincal basis behind the two apps but I would think the location data on the phone is provided in the same or similar manner. It is just that the Find Friend app is not updating from that phone while the app is running in the background.

We're having the same issue. 4 iPhones all updated to ios7 and now one not working correctly with find my friends. We can only see their location if they leave the app running. I called apple. First rep never heard of find my friends!! Next rep told me to wipe the phone and restart as a new install! Also both reps said they haven't heard of this issue!!! Really?! Don't they read the discussions??

Just did a chat session with Apple support again and this time managed to get a supervisor. He admitted that the first rep was wrong and this is indeed an Apple app but was clearly unaware of the problem. The intersting thing is that he uses FMF himself but was unaware of the problem because he had not even upgraded to iOS7 yet. Why apples own reps havent all done the upgrade so they could speak more intelligently on the suport line seems strange to me.

While we were in the chat he used another reps phone and they did some testing to confirm what I was telling him. I gave hi a link t this thread and they read through the complaints. He said he would send something to the development team and said that he found documentation that they were aware of the problem but he said there is no way to get a response from them or ETA on repairs.

Looks like thats the best I can do for now. Everyone here should put in a complaint. the more they get the better chance something will get done

I submitted a report via the feedback link noted by michaelfromglen head as well as others. I also did a review of the latest version of the find my friends app in the app store. They are getting lots of 1 star bad reviews there. I suspect that will get their attention as well. If you have not reviewed in the app store with a 1 star review I would suggest doing that.

Everything was fine until my family updated to ios7. Four iPhones, one cannot be "found" by the rest of us unless she has the app running-which defeats the purpose. Many people complaining of the same 'new' problem, but Apple reps don't seem to know or care about it...their solution to me was to reset her iPhone as a new install therefore wiping her backed up info out. What good is that? It was working for us before the update. Plus what's the point of backing up your phone and paying for extra iCloud space, if you can't restore it?

So yes, 3 out of 4 of us in my family have not had a problem finding each other without the other having to run the app.Three 4s and one 5. The one not working is a 4s. I tried everything and anything to get it working. Even wiped out her phone and restored to backup. Deleted and reinstalled the app on all phones. Logged out and back in. Checked every iCloud, every location setting. I had 2 different reps helping me solves this- and nothing....

eluckie, Have you turned Background App Refresh off for Find My Friend (or globally)? If so, you will still see this behavior.

For Find My Friends to work properly on iOS 7 you need to have Background App Refresh enabled and you have to not force quit the app. I'm running iOS 7 and it works fine for me.

Force quitting is bad...don't do it.

Not the problem (for me anyway)-Background app refresh is on for all apps on all of our phones.

As far as leaving app running, that's not how it worked in previous iOS versions. Realistically, It makes no sense to have to have the person your trying to find run the app before you can find them ( and then keep it running).

What if you can't find your kids phone? Yes, yes I know, there's find iphone. But that means I have to log in using my kids Apple ID (because we all have our own). Find my friend is much better- I see everyone's phone with my Apple ID. I can't run the app on a phone that's lost at the moment.
