Upgraded to iTunes 11.1 and lost Home Sharing connectivity....

I have a Windows 7 computer with iTunes. I also have two Apple TV's, one 2nd gen and one 3rd gen. While using iTunes 11.05 and previous verisons both ATV's worked flawlessly with my iTunes library. I have come to enjoy home sharing and have many movies and shows collected in my library that I share with the ATV's.

I upgraded my phones to IOS7 and subsequently upgraded to iTunes 11.1. Once I upgraded to iTunes 11.1, I lost the ability to connect my ATV's to my iTunes library. Interestingly enough, I can see all of the devices from the Airplay icons. On the Windows computer I can see both ATV's when I select the Airplay icon. On the ATV's I can see each ATV when I select AirPlay under the options menu. From the ATV's I can access the Internet just fine and stream content from YouTube, etc.

I have rebooted all of the devices including my router many times in different order with no luck.

I have tried disconnecting the home share and re-connecting it with no luck.

I have reset one ATV to factory default and re-configured to my home share with no luck.

I uninstalled iTunes and all of the supporting apps on my Windows 7 computer and re-installed with no luck.

I went through all of this with an Apple Support representative last night and he ended the call by saying I should wait for ATV update. So until then I guess I have to wait on Apple. I was kind of surprised he did not elevate my issue to another engineer or something.

Any thoughts that can help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Kevin

PS -

Is Home Sharing enabled in the ATV's? Yes

Are the ATV's and the computer on the same network? Yes

Are all the devices using the same Apple ID? Yes

IT WORKS NOW! Okay... now this is really bizarre. Like someone said in broken English but is highly appreciated by this person... Turn Itunes to XP 3 compatible and Itunes immediately finds the Apple TV and it works. Turn off XP3 compatible and it crashes again. I wonder what the heck they did to mess this up? I get a warning that Windows 7 about it but it works. APPLE FIX YOUR MESS!

Right click on Itunes short cut, properties, compatibility, click run this program in compatibility mode for XP 3. Start Itunes, ignore Windows 7 whining about it, and Itunes finds the Apple TV box immediately. If you turn it off the compatibility mode and restart Itunes, the problem comes right back.

Whatever they did to the update in this latest version should be easy to fix.

I tried the disabling of in the Firewall but that doesn't work here. Only running it in XP 3 compability mode. There is another bug though in IOS 7 with mirroring. That one is weird too... If you restart an Ipad it works. If you use Mirroring a few times it stops. And the only way to get it back is to restart the Ipad. So that's two bugs I have found so far in these new releases.

This is what worked for me - I have spent the past few days looking for a fix as I lost all home sharing no matter what I would do. Right clicking on itunes > properties > compatibility > check the box to make it run in compatibility mode fixed it right away, as soon as iTunes opened up the airplay logo was back up again.

Thanks heaps ProudAcadian!

Having the same issue with Home Sharing on my Windows 7 64 bit PC running iTunes 11.1. Never had this issue with iTunes 10.7 and would have gladly kept it that way except there was no way to sync my iPhone 5 running iOS 7 with the old version of iTunes. Upgraded to iTunes 11.1 and Home Sharing worked for a bit then all of a sudden it was gone. Tried to run iTunes in compatibility mode, didn't work. Tried to uninstall and reinstall iTunes and that did not work either. I have tried rebooting and restarting all of my devices (two Apple TV 2's, iPhone 5, and iPad 3) with no results. Any suggestions about what else I could try?

Also forgot to mention that I also unplugged my router to reboot it and that did not do anything either. I will try to disable the firewall this evening and see if that makes any difference. Also, for what it's worth, my iPhone and iPad no longer WiFi sync when plugged into power. There is no AirPlay icon anymore when playing files locally on my server to allow the files to be sent to my other devices, which I imagine is also tied up with this Home Sharing issue.

Okay folks am gotta keep this short sorry! I had myself in the same place after just a simple update failed to install properly......

Here's how to fix...... simply uninstall Bonjour, Apple Mobile Devices Support, Apple Application Support and of course iTunes after all this has been done head over to App "C:\Users\Stephen\AppData\Local", "C:\ProgramData", "C:\Program Files (x86) & "C:\ProgramData" Delete everything to do with the programs that have been uninstalled but be careful not to delete any iCloud stuff or Safari as its a pain in the arse to go and repair. Just for good measure run a Desktop Cleaner or manually delete your temp folders to help make sure the reinstall is clean as possible.

After All that has been done Restart PC and Download a nice fresh install of iTunes 11.1 and run as normal and all should be good if you need to agree to the terms and conditions again....

Just FYI I found it to be the "iPod Module (64x)" that fail to install correctly with already having a previous version install which seem to create all the problems with the firewall...User uploaded file

Ok, tried 2 additional things to see if I could get Home Sharing working. First off, I set Windows Firewall to off. This did not work. Then, I did what Keithy24 did and deleted everything related to iTunes so that I could get as clean of an install as possible. I even deleted my iTunes library file so that I could manually add back in my library. Installed iTunes, fired up Home Sharing, and guess what I got? A whole lot of nothing. Come on Apple and get it together! Right now I am lucky to be able to bounce my media collection through Plex Media Server to the Apple TV via AirPlay but this is far from ideal. Anyone else have any ideas of anything else I could try, I am all ears. Thanks for the help.

P.S. Anyone out there who uses Home Sharing a lot and wants to continue to do so, I suggest you avoid iTunes 11.1 like the plague if you have a Windows 7 machine. At least until all the kinks have been worked out.

If u have been messing around with your firewall like I did at first and seem to have a whole load of unlit (green ticks) rules for iTunes and others. I found the best way again is to rest to default but this will rest silly things like windows media extenders and home sharing but easy enough to turn back on by rerunning their setups....

Ducttake49 trust me this is the only way I found to sort this without messing with any ports, firewalls, routers, and services..... If it didn't work the first time then there must be a file hiding in your folders you missed, please ensure you get all of them e.g apple folders, iTunes and apple computer folder you will find these in all the paths I last mentioned before.. if it's too difficult to decide which files to delete and keep without affecting your iCloud control panel and apple software update then uninstall these too and just delete everything your see that's got to do with apple.

When I say everything I mean iPhone, iPad and iPod back ups too.

But obviously your library will be refreshed but as long as your music and movie files are still in your folders in windows 7/8 then they will be found and placed straight back onto your iTunes once the install is complete....

Look lads I know how frustrating this can be and how hard it is to know who is right and who's just on a wild crusade to mess with every setting there is for no reason, well I guess it up to you all to trust and believe me this is the only way that makes sense. how did it happens to some of us and not all of us plus why would your firewall setting be wrong if they were right before? The only reason I can think this has happened is something to do with the way iTunes installs and what I mean with that is I noticed that iTunes seems to only give you files you need or that are missing to save time in the install. It won't replace nothing unless it's deleted out of the PC. I wrecking when we all installed the update we all got a mix up in the firewall rules because of the airdrop setting getting applied to the rules and they didn't get properly integrated of some sort. Anyways that's my theory and it paid off for me lads.

Am only on here trying to help you all out as no one of apple seems to give a flying f**k to update their trouble shooting section or even come online to see what's their loyal customers (that spend thousands on equipment from them) are having problems with!! How hard is it for them to say "hi am from apple and am looking into it can some of your guys give me screens shots of blah blah blah and a list of some more blah and I'll get back to your ASAP thanks?" Rant over lol!!

Just take your time with it and make sure u clean it out properly and when it installs firewall and the rest of your settings look like my screen shots above .... The screen shots above are what all the settings look like while actually streaming a movie to my iPad with home sharing working.

Let me know how u all get on so other on here feedback and find an quick and easy fix k...

Ok, going to try and keep this brief. FINALLY found a work around that allows Home Sharing again on my network. First, as others have suggested, I set iTunes to run in compatibility mode for Win XP service pack 3 by right clicking on iTunes and selecting this in "Properties". Next, I disabled IPv6 on my network adapter. You do this by following the instructions at this url:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929852. Finally, I went into my Windows Firewall advanced settings and modified the rules which the program "Bonjour" uses when interacting with my firewall. I selected Advanced Settings, then Inbound Rules from the left column and noticed that I had 4 Bonjour services running. On each service, I right clicked and selected properties and made sure that the following was set on each tab:

Under general: Allow the connection

Under Programs and Services: All programs that meet the specified conditions

Under Advanced, I checked both Domain and Private to be safe

Restarted the computer and ran iTunes and viola! Home Sharing was back in place. I don't know exactly why this particular combination of steps worked for me, but it did. So if you have tried running iTunes in compatibility mode as suggested earlier but find that it does not work for you (as it did for me), then hopefully this will help you guys out.

OK, so none of the fixes on here seem to have worked for me. Tried the compatability mode, IPv6, etc. and nothing yet. Updated the iTunes again today to 11.1.1 hoping for a solution and nothing!! My setup is a little different as I'm running Windows 8, so I'm wondering if anyone out there has found another solution or has contacted Apple and figured something else out that doesn't require all the changes that have been suggested thus far. Really, everything was working just fine until iOS 7 came along and we all had to update iTunes in order to make that work.

Mate, like I said before on here and showed you all with the screen shots of my system you just really need to get rid of all you iTunes files from you PC and start again.... if you miss any then you will have to start the whole process again.... I have noticed that some smarter people on here have found complex fixes for themselves but am happy knowing I have a nice clean install and my system is untouched plus secure for my piece of mind.

would it help you if I screen shot all the folders I cleared out to make it work for myself or are the path names enough?

Upgraded to iTunes 11.1 and lost Home Sharing connectivity....
