Please confirm use of mini DVI-Video (s-video) cable with Macbook

Hi,

I have tried to use the Mini DVI-> Video cable with my new Macbook in order to be able to connect to my TV.
Unfortunately it doesnt work, I do get the resolution change when I plug in the cable but nothing on the TV. I went back to the local Apple center and they tested the cable on a Powerbook G4, it worked flawlessly. Then they tried a monitor on my Macbook's DVI port, it also worked.
But when trying the mini DVI to Video cable on the Macbook, no luck!

Can anybody please confirm they have used this cable and connected successfully to a TV?? Using either the s-video option or composite?

Thanks in advance!!!

Best Regards,

Thomas

I have the "Monster iTV link for PowerBook 12" (mini dvi version).

I bought this a few days ago for my MacBook after scouring the discussion forums for info on which cable to buy. I found that someone with a 12" powerbook mini dvi version had used the apple mini dvi to dvi adapter for the powerbook on his new MacBook, and all worked as normal.

With that info it confirmed that the mini dvi ports are the same.

My monster cable is here and works like a dream on my MacBook.

Hope this makes your decision easier that mine.

I can confirm the problem. Neither the s-video, nor the alternative connection (whatever the name for it is) allow for the mirroring of the display of my macbook (black). Similarly, the resolution changes on the computer, but the tv remains black, "no signal".I haven't been back to the store yet. Does anybody know whether other connectors (such as the computer monitor cables) do better?

I've got a mini-dvi to tv adapter working here, and i'm in australia so it's pal.

The TV-Standard is independant of your computer, and is determined by your adapter.

Perhaps there is a newer revision of the tv adapter? i've not had any problems with mine, and it only involved plugging the adapter in and hitting the AV button on the television.

I have found on all Macs connected to TVs that the TV often needs to have the right option chosen in it's setup menus.

For instance, I have a Toshiba LCD TV it doesn't have svid, so I used a scart plug adapter with an svid port on. I then had to set the TV to use that input for svid (as opposed to Composite or RGB).

BTW: I use the mini DVI to svid monster cable, quality is fantastic. But I am waiting on a dvi to hdmi cable to arrive.. for full digital!!!
