iPhone 5 with iOS 7 randomly shuts off

Why stick with Iphone if you have this many problems? Maybe a young college kid has time to worry about this crap, but I don't! Apple, I do not want to reset my phone again. I have done this twice with ios7. Fix's one problem then others arise! Tired of this!

I agree completely. I am on the verge of leaving apple iPhone as well. Apple sees that there is clearly a problem, but wouldn't one think they would notify all customers of a solid fix; apparently not. Unfortunately the company seems to have taken a major downward turn after the passing of Steve.

@ahs70 : after i installed ios 7.0.4 with your method (using shift+restore), is it safe to install all apps backfrom the backup that i made ?

You actually don't need to do a hard reset and erase all your data and settings on your iPhone-this step is to simply determine if it's a software issue or a problem with the battery. You can skip the hard reset step and just manually install the full 1.3gig downloaded version of iOS 7.0.4 on your iPhone with all your data and settings on it already. This should fix it if it's a software issue and this way you can keep all your data and settings without having to start over again and lose everything.

I have the exact same problem. I submitted the issue to Apple and I hope they'll come up with an update.

For those who think it's a hardware problem, I wanted to add that my phone randomly shuts down ONLY when cellular data (3G) is on.

If I turn flight mode + wifi on and I keep using the phone with wifi to connect to the internet, etc., it never shuts down and the battery lasts till 0%, so this proves it's not a battery problem, but a software problem.

Anyway, I just downloaded and installed the 1.3 Gb iOS 7.0.4 version and I hope this will work for me too.

Please let us know if it does fix your problem. It seems like for most people this issue only started when upgrading their phones to iOS 7, which would also indicate that it's a software issue.

@Slick Pouch: How coul i kepp all my data - I pressed shift+restore and he installed i.o.s 7.0.4 (the file that i manually chose), but all the data are gone - after i chose SET UP AS NEW IPHONE. The only way now is to restore from backup - did i have other alternatives and i didn't do something right ?

In other order of ideas, after this, my phone went normally to 20%, than 10%, then 5% without skipping more than 1% at a time, but at 2% when i took a picture, he closed and after i immediately put to charge he opened having 5% battery and after i could use it for one-2 minutes and it dropped suddenly from 5% to 1% and then closed. Now, I don't know if this trick from ahs70 solved my issue or not - it still seems to slightly exist - but surely is way better than the moment the phone closed at 35%. The only thing i am upset is that i didn't try to take a picture earlier than 2% - i was curious what would happen - i will try this next time - but i don't know if it is ok to restore from backup or not...

After installing the iOS 7.0.4 manually the battery lasted all day with 3G cell data on. I went to sleep and the battery level was about 20%... I set it to flight mode and this morning it was about 13%. As I turned wifi on and I started receiving notifications, it died... I had to plug it in and I charged it to 17%, then unplugged it. Now I'm using it to go online, check messages and stuff... it's 5% and it hasn't died it...

I don't know if the iOS 7.0.4 installation solved the problem at this point... I will have to see what happens in the next days... in the meantime, I ordered a cover with battery included, just in case... and I hope that Apple comes up with a solution as soon as possible...

If you don't feel like reinstallng iOS and have Apple Care+, I would reccomend going to Apple, making them aware of this problem by getting a new battery intalled. I had my battery replaced and now I don't have to charge my phone twice a day. In fact, this new battery has been lasting almost 2 days without charge with the same amount of usage. I am, however, still dubious about iOS 7.-- being the culprit. Maybe by the time/if Apple owns up and fixes this issue and offers us all new batteries, mine will be ready to be replaced again. Until then, I will hopefully still be enjoying a battery that doesn't shut off my phone at 30something%. It really is a treat having a new battery and I recommend anyone who has apple care plus(like I do) go take advantage of it.

I had the same problem, My phone was shutting down even when I had charge at 80%. Recently I did a clean up activity and found too many applications are part of my notification center. I cleaned up and just kept the mandatory ones. I can say after 2 weeks of observation my phone battery doesn't drain also even at 5% I can do the same activities and it doesn't shut down. Along with this I removed some un necessary backgrouns refresh apps also.

Do a restore from backup first so that your phone has all your data and settings and then manually install the downloaded full 1.3 Gig version of iOS 7.0.4 on top of that. You won't lose any data or change any of your settings but it will simply overwrite the iOS files. If this doesn't seem to fix your problem then just get the battery replaced as it will most likely be a hardware battery issue. This solution seems to have worked for some, myself included, but obviously it's not going to work for everyone. That's why it's good to find out if it's a hardware issue or a software issue first. But trying these two solutions is so much cheaper than buying a whole new phone...if it works. Lol

I'm not sure why yours isn't allowing you to install the complete version of iOS 7.0.4 on your phone and your losing all your data and settings. I suspect you are using a mac instead of a windows so you have to push and hold the "Option" button instead of using the "Shift" key. Note step 5 below.

Updating your iOS firmware is painful if you are having slow connection. The file size of iOS firmware usually large and it takes time for download. Poor connection may cause your download to be interrupted, and even timeout at half way.

The best way to update your iOS firmware is to manually download the .ipsw file and update it later. Follow a few simple instructions to complete this task.

1. Go to http://iOSIndex.com and select the correct iOS firmware version for your device.
2. Download the .ipsw file using any browser or download manager.
3. Please note that some browsers may change the file extension from .ipswto .zip. Please rename it back to .ipsw after download complete.
4. Open iTunes on your computer and plug in your device.
5. If you are using PC, hold "Shift" and click on the update button in iTunes. For Mac users, hold "Option" and click on the update button in iTunes.
6. A file browser should appear and browse for the .ipsw you have just downloaded.
7. Follow the instructions on screen and your iOS update will be started shortly.

Yes, i allready have the ipsw that is right for m phone-i have it saved on my pc. I have windows. You mean to hold shift plus check for updates and not shift plus restore, right? I have pressed shift plus restore-maybe this was the problem... At the end of the process, he asked me if set up as new phone or restore from backup and i chose set up as new phone. Does this option with set up as new phone still appear even if i click shift plus check for updates ? If yes, what do i chose then? Thank you.

That is correct, I can confirm that if you hold shift and click check for updates, it will allow you to reinstall iOS from the ipsw file, and will not delete any of your settings or photos/movies/music/etc. I just performed this update and it took maybe 15-20 minutes. It remains to be seen whether or not it will fix my battery issues, but I'm hopeful after reading the success others have had with this process.
