iPhone 5 with iOS 7 randomly shuts off

Are any of you aware of iOS 7 randomly shutting down iPhones? Ever since I upgraded 2 day ago it has shut down at least 3 times. The battery was at about 18%, 20%, and 36% when it shut down. I don't believe it’s a bug with the battery percentage because it started back up as soon as hit the power button. Also, it is not due to overheating or anything else wrong with the environment. Nothing in the environment has changed except that I updated to iOS 7. Let me know if this occurs to anyone else and if there are any solutions pending?

Really when one minute it works fine than do the update then BAM DOESNT WORK ANYMORE!!

A previous update in the past done the same thing than they fixed it.

Do you get album pics playlists and so on displaying on the screen, my stereo starts to search than fails immediately after the update.

I unplugged the phone from the stereo to do the update then plugged it straight back in and no working!

Ended up at an Apple store and they had no luck restoring the phone. This phone randomly shut off BEFORE iOS 7 update (many, many times) and eventually started going into restore mode which happened several times until it was not restorable.

Battery check was good. Who knows if this is a battery issue (as some claim). There is obviously a wider spread problem but I don't think Apple knows what it is (which is why no statements).

Spent the $300 to swap out the phone.

I have three other iphone 5's all with a similar random turning off problem BUT have not gone into restore mode. We also have three 4S's and have NO PROBLEMS.

Holding out for a fix, for now, but going to swtich phone brands if I have to buy another replacement.

Same issue and seems to have gotten worse with the new iOS7.1 upgrade. Apple said its a hardware issue and I should get my phone replaced but I never had this issue prior to iOS7.0. Its clearly a software issue and if you can't replace your phone (warranty over etc.) you're SOL. I am not sure if my next phone will be an iPhone based on this experience.

I had the same issue - spontaneous shutdowns and an inability to restore the phone from recovery mode. I took my 18-month old iphone 5 to the apple store and despite it being outside the 12 month warranty, they said based on the symptoms (and after a review of the internals) it needed to be replaced. So they gave me a new phone. As suggested there must be a recognised issue wiith the hardware if they are willing to do this.

Thanks go to Apple (in earnest). Apart from the initial frustration, this was sorted out with a minimum of fuss.

I tired the 7.1 update and I thought it had solved my issues but the phone keeps shutting down. When I contacted applw suport last month they said it wasn't a hardware issue on my phone(sent them diagnostic information) and it was a software issue that Apple know about and are currently working on. Please wait for 7.1 to fix it. Got the same issues after the update and when i contacted support they have totally back tracked and said I need to buy a new battery now!

I asked them does my curren diagnositic report say it the battery? No it doesn't!, but they still want me to buy a new one and see if that fixes it!

Asked to talk to manger about this and got no where, doesn't care i've put up for this for a month, doesn't care its effcted me at work and home not having a phone that can't hold a charge for more than 5 mins. I wouln't have minded about paying for a new battery if that what I was told in the frist instance when I contacted them.

Terrible customer service, I'm ditching my iphone and going to switch to another brand. Shocking serice, apple should train their staff better, if your in the wrong you should hold up your hands and do the right thing.

Turning off the frequent locations in location settings seems to mitigate the shutdown problem a lot.

Also by now i'm am convinced that this is a battery issue. Looks like some batteries are of a lesser quality and that ios7 has higher requirements in power consumption. That's the reason then why this problem hasn't come up in previous os versions.

So it may not be Apple's fault to have given us a bad software with ios7 but for having sold a bad battery to us.

Not sure. I had a similar issue and had no issues until iOS7 even when I drained my phoen out on the old iOS. With iOS7 i also doubt its the battery as to give one example, my phone had a battery level of 80-90% when it randomly shut down. It wouldn't start up throughout the day. In the evening after 8-9 hours it finally came on - Battery level was still showing 80-90%..... so no suspected drain.
