iPhone 5 with iOS 7 randomly shuts off

Are any of you aware of iOS 7 randomly shutting down iPhones? Ever since I upgraded 2 day ago it has shut down at least 3 times. The battery was at about 18%, 20%, and 36% when it shut down. I don't believe it’s a bug with the battery percentage because it started back up as soon as hit the power button. Also, it is not due to overheating or anything else wrong with the environment. Nothing in the environment has changed except that I updated to iOS 7. Let me know if this occurs to anyone else and if there are any solutions pending?

I did not read all 20 pages of post but I read a few and it seems it's the same problem. We have two iphone 5 with iOS7 that shut of randomly when the battery is nowhere near depleated, it can be 70%, 50% 30% the iphone shuts off even mid conversation sometimes and you can not turn it on. Talking about inconvinent this is really bad issue.

Was there a official response from Apple about this? We have had most iphones since original release and this is making reconsider our next purchase for sure.

iOS 7.1 has not solved the problem for me. At all

Still experience random shutdowns when on carrier data network and below 20%.

Is this just a shutdown/reboot and then you can continue using the phone, or is it actually acting like the battery is dead when it still said 20%, and telling you to plug in the device?

I think there may be 2 different issues people are having. Mine is the latter with it acting like the battery is dead when it was still showing 20-30% left. I haven't had the issue since installing 7.1 but then I haven't really run it down much since then, either.

I'm so disappointed, I really thought that 7.1 was going to solve the battery issue.

I waited but no, it's happened twice in the last two days..

Huts down as if the battery is dead once at 13% the other at 7%...

I have no trust in this phone....

It's also out if warrantee. If I'd taken it back and been a pain in the *** and insisted I get a fix, I might of got something done, no apple can just sneer at me and say it's not covered so it's your problem..

I have an iPhone5, bought in June 2013. Since the last 3 months (running on iOS 7), I have experienced random reboots and random shut-downs, even at battery levels above 90%. I also get shutdowns where my screen fades to black, first showing different coulours...and then dies.

I patched to ios 7.1 yesterday and unfortunately the update has not worked for me. It shut off twice today.

MUST be a hardware problem. I am getting this fixed tomorrow. Since I have a 2 year warranty, I expect nothing else than a new phone...

My iPhone 5 was bought about a year ago and updated to iOS 7 soon after it was released. At first, I did not notice the problem, though I usually try to allow the battery to drain as much as possible before recharging. At first, i just found it odd that the battery depleted when I could swear there was 8%left. Last week, the battery died on me with 17% left while I was reading a news app. I updated to 7.1 the other day, hoping this would resolve the problem but today it happened again right after I got the 10% warning, hit dismiss then got the spinning wheel in the black screen of death. This is the first time I searched this problem on the support page and am very disappointed that after over 300 posts and over 80,000 page views Apple still has not fixed this issue. Of all the attempted solutions on this thread, the DFU mode sounds the most plausible, but that was offered back on the first page. If this worked, I don't think there would be 20 more pages of this same problem. Perhaps a trip to the Apple store may be in order.

Similar to above. iPhone 5 started powering off randomly at all sorts of different battery power levels after ios 7. I was really hoping for a fix with ios 7.1. I finally got it installed last night and had a full battery this morning as I headed out for a morning backcountry ski tour. I kept the phone close to me to keep it warm (and in a little baggie to keep it dry), and about an hour into the tour I got a phone call and when I tried to answer it my phone died (not sure battery % at the time) and wouldn't restart until I plugged it back into my car charger a few hours later, and when it did restart with the power from the car charger it said 82% or so. I definitely can't count on this phone working one bit right now.

Thanks PatrickGSR94. In my case, the iPhone 5 shuts down completely when it has charge left. I could be at 25% one moment, then 1 % the next, and back to 25% when I plug in the charger to power up the phone.

I took it in to the Apple Store the other day, and the Genius made a remarkable U-turn when he went from a "it's a battery issue," to,"wait, diagnostics show it's a healthy battery," and finally, "Maybe you shouldn't have upgraded iOS when it was working fine."

In my eyes, this experience alone means Apple is no longer the forward-thinking customer service organization that helped it get to where it is.

Now four months of an unreliable phone with what is supposed to be the world's most advanced mobile operating system. All started with 7.0.4 for me.

I just want my phone to work!
