I asked you about going to iCloud.com and erasing it from there. Since you cannot access your device from the device itself, then you need to try to do it remotely. You can erase it from iCloud and then can "Remove it from Account" which will release the Activation Lock. After you have done that, you can then connect it to iTunes and restore it from an iTunes backup, or set it up and restore it from an iCloud backup.

This page came up first on Google, though I would share what worked for me:

  1. Plug iPad into authorized mac with iTunes open
  2. Hold power and home button to reboot
  3. Keep holding home button to get the "connect to iTunes" text
  4. Reboot iPad with home and power button
  5. Unlock and open another app

If stuck in connect to iTunes I think a tool like TinyUmbrella will get it out. Not sure if this only worked for me because it was first enrolled to a network with Apple Configurator.

What does putting your device in Recovery mode have to do with exiting Guided Access? That is really overkill. All you have to do is to triple-click each item that you want to select until you have navigated to the Guided Access options in Settings. Then you turn it off. It's not rocket science. And the first thing that comes up on Google is not always (or even often) the best solution.

You're welcome. If worse come to worse Guided access can also be turned off by connecting a iPad/iPhone to a computer. I don't have a clue what you need to do once connected.

One of my favorite accessibility tricks is if you are in VoiceOver you can turn the screen off by triple tapping the screen with three fingers. If someone asks "My iPad is on, it talks to me when I touch the screen but the screen is dark, help." You calmly reply " You're in VoiceOver and accidently turned on screen curtain. Triple tap the screen with three fingers or tell Siri to turn VoiceOver off ." The OP's jaw will hit the floor when it works. 🙂
