iTV upgrade issue

What? I went to settings on iTV and watched 2 phases implemented to the supposed new upgrade. After 10-minutes up pops a picture of the iTV box connected (seemingly) to iTunes. I assumed (why should I assume - english please) that I should connect to my iMac and grabbed a few Apple cables though UNABLE TO CONNECT FROM iTV TO iTUNES. why, apple? What do I do in layman terms (my wife is ready to throw this box out into the Bay)? The iTV box isn't compatible with any cables I have (and I certainly don't recall a cable provided with the iTV). Why Apple?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Update went badly for you.

You need a USB to micro USB cable to restore AppleTV.

Apple do not supply one with AppleTV though I think they should. You may have one for a small USB powered device of one kind or another that would be suitable. If not buy one or take AppleTV to an Apple Store for them to fix.

Instructions for restore:

Pay attention to differences in power connection depending on whether or not you have AppleTV2 or AppleTV 3.

This post, and the author of it, sets a great example to others. It is helpful, constructive, and is not demeaning or rude to the OP.

Thanks for your email.

On restoring the appletv from my computer it restored to 6.0 unfortunately.

However I have found a link to a site with previous firmware versions for download.

I see my post has been deleted from the communities web site and I received an arrogant sounding email from apple warning me to keep within their guidelines! What cheek!

They have forgotten that they are sellers and I am a buyer. In the capitalist system the seller meets the demands of the marketplace, not the other way round.

Anyway thanks for your help.

You're welcome. Glad it made it through before it was "1984'd" - now there's irony!

Whole threads are being deleted, left right and centre, and there is still no official statement about the 6.0 update. It really harms the relationship and future loyalty.

Since I reverted - officially via iTunes - to 5.3, all the playlists are now back, and normality has been restored. I haven't purchased anything via our ATVs so I didn't suffer loss of Purchases. The contrast between the two OSes reveals deep problems that haven't been widely reported. I hope they get it all sorted soon and loyal customers get some restored faith.

Advice for us all? Don't update straightaway.

I am having the same problem - upgrade on AppleTV lead me to get it connected to iTunes on TV screen.

When connecting ATV3 through micro-usb to Windows7 computer with iTunes 11, & then connecting the power supply - the iTunes does not detect the ATV - I tried connecting my previously sync-ed iPhone and the iTunes recognizes it, also the iTunes can show me all the iTunes Store. Already restarted the computer 2 times, and ATV few times.

Wondering how do I make my ATV get detected on iTunes, with ATV logo where I can click on "Restore"

Will appreciate any suggestion.
