More iTunes 11.1 fun: it hangs if I get info, and then try to go to Next or Previous track.

Pretty much as per the title: I can Get Info (Command-I) for an iTunes track just fine, and change information if I so please. If I press "OK", no problem - but if I click "Next" or "Previous", iTunes just hangs. And hangs. And hangs. So far I've "only" waited 30 minutes at most before force quitting.

It's typical hanging behavior: the current song will finish playing, but nothing else will play. Spinning beach ball and all that; 90%+ CPU usage, and in the Activity Monitor it turns red because it's not responding.

My software's all as up to date as possible; the iMac is late 2009 "vintage", but changing tag information shouldn't do that much damage!

Is this just me?

I'm running Snow Leopard on a 2006 iMac. I'd like to upgrade the OS, but the hardware won't support it. At any rate, I'm having terrible problems with 11.1. It hangs when I do just about anything. After force quitting a couple of times, it may work for awhile ... then, in the middle of a song, it hangs again. Sigh.

At first I thought it might be a problem with Quicksilver, but the hanging occurs even when Quicksilver is turned off. I've had issues with iTunes in the past, but nothing like this. It seems to have started with the 11.1 upgrade.

You're not alone with that problem (iTunes 11.1 on a 10.7.5 MacBook Pro from 2012).

I've got 2 other problems with that version:

User uploaded file

The artist/album/track informations of the playing track are not displayed anymore.

User uploaded file

When dragging a track to a playlist while in grid presentation, the album infos will close as soon as the cursor enter the lateral column. It doesn't happen when in list mode.

Hope Apple will fix those bugs quickly…

OK, more info. I unchecked "Sync podcast subscriptions" and "Automatically download new episodes ..." And no luck. Hung again. Deleted the folder on my external hard drive that held the troublesome podcast. No luck. Hung again. Went in under Parental Control and disabled podcasts. Still, no luck. Keeps hanging on the same podcast episode that it won't stop downloading. Frustrating.

Same here, it is a real pain when editing meta data and you just want to click to the next track for editing the same field.

How they have managed to break this simple function i have no idea, but it needs fixing. I'm ripping Vinyl atm and that involves a lot of meta data editing.

This slows it up big time.

All I can say is make sure you submit the crash report when you force close it, that is the only way they will take notice, bc for most ppl this won't even be an issue, a lot of ppl wouldn't know what an ID3 tag was let alone be bothered to edit one.

Glad I ran into this thread. This problem was driving me nuts. I would repair permissions and restart my Mac, then it would work for a day or so. But then the problem reappeared and could not be repaired. This update seems to have fixed it. I have my fingers crossed.

Try resetting your PRAM. I was having this issue but it wasn't just with iTunes. It turned out iTunes was just the most noticable. I repaired permisisons, verified the disk, but it wasn't until I reset the PRAM that it finally seemed to settle down.
