I have just installed ios7 on my iphone and can no longer retrieve my voice mail. The voicemail page shows the caller's name and info with a bright blue dot next to the caller's name. The playback button - which is light grey - does not respond to touch. What do I need to do to hear the message? Thank you.

These steps fixed the issue of voicemails not playing after upgrading to IOS7 for me. Good luck!
I have two Iphone 5's and had this issue and Sprint is my carrier, I can't say if this will work or not if you have someone besides Sprint. I fixed my phones by doing this...
From the home screen, tap Phone.
On the keypad, dial ##873283# and tap Call.
Tap OK.
Your device searches for profile updates and installs them.
Tap Dismiss.
Tap the Home key.
After you do this, power the phone off and then back on. You should now be able to access your voicemails. On my second phone it took about a minute after I rebooted it before the voicemails were accessable.
I deleted all of the voicemails I didn't need; this issue was immediately resolved.
This problem has returned for me, and with a vengeance. Out of half a dozen VMs in the past few days, at least half have been unplayable. Delete/undelete hasn't worked. Re-starting the phone worked on one of the three. Resetting network settings worked on one. Nothing worked on the third.

Yes - I had to reboot my iPhone as well, for the password fix to work. Thank you! All good now.
Follow the instructions a couple of posts below. Go to your phone settings and change your voicemail password. This worked for me on my iPhone 7
