iTunes Match Bug: Duplicate Songs

The new Music app seems to have a lot of issues with iTunes Match, but this one just occured for me and it's really annoying: All my downloaded songs are displayed twice, once as the downloaded version and once available for download. Anyone else had this happen and got it resolved? Otherwise I will be left with bug reporting this and hoping this is fixed soon -_-

Besides the fact that you cannot delete albums and artists anymore this makes the new music app really bad for match users :-(

PS: Funny, I just looked at the screenshot and noticed that the itunes match version of the song is actually one second longer than my local version... I am starting to be very confused.

The same thing has been happening on my iPhone 5s. It is odd because when I still had the iPhone 5 running iOS 7, everything worked fine.

Do you conncect your device to a computer to sync with iTunes? That is when I get duplicate tracks. Everything is fine before a sync with iTunes. After syncing, I get duplicates like what you have pictured. Also, I have found some albums where the downloaded copy was deleted and all that remains is the iCloud copy.

The only fix I have found is to:

1. Turn off iTunes Match

2. Delete all music (Settings > General > Usage)

3. Do not connect to iTunes

This really interferes with how I have been managing and syncing my podcasts. My choices now are either: turn off iTunes Match and sync via iTunes; or not use iTunes and have everything download twice, once in the Podcasts app and then again in iTunes.

One other thing I've noticed is sometimes toggling iTunes Match off/on on the phone doesn't stick. Not sure why there are two different locations in settings for toggling iTunes Match? One is under "Music" and one is under "iTunes and App Store". Seems like they get mixed up sometimes. Turning my phone off/on seems to fix that when it happens.

I had the same problem and tried all sorts of fixes. Called Apple Care and followed their directions, which worked: Turn off iTunes Match in your iPhone Music settings, then turn it back on again. It didn't take very long to re-load, probably 5-10 minutes (and I have a lot of music on my iPhone), and now the dupes are gone. Pretty simple.

I am having the same problem with an iPhone 5, running Windows Vista and the latest version of iTunes... I have purchased a bunch of individual songs, they are fine, but I have two albums that I have bought and on the phone they appear as duplicates... only solution is to delete both copies and re-load from the version downloaded on the computer to the iPhone. Strangest part is that when I bought one of the albums, I bought a single song at the same time and that single song gives me no problems.

I am somebody who is quite pedantic about play counts and last played date as I have playlists that updated based on this information. The library on iTunes is a lot larger than my iPhone can handle and I just move over what I want when I want it, listen to it, let it update iTunes with play count and play date, then delete it off my iPhone... as you can appreciate, this bug is driving me insane!!!

(I am NOT using iTunes match, and never have...)

I agree, this is just unbeleivable. I had an IPHONE 4S and never had this problem and now two things in Itunes are driving me up the wall. The Duplicate problem which also manifests itself in Car Tunes and also the inability for the phone to work in ITunes inverted. Whoever decided the headphone jack should be on the bottom of the phone and not allow you to use it in an inverted mode was drinking heavily while designing it.

I too do not use ITunes Match and still am having issues with duplicates.

Have they found a fix for this bug yet? If I had know the iphone 5s was like this I would not have bought one. I didn't the problem with my iphone 4. The sales person told me to back up every thing on my iphone 4 to icloud and then update my iphone 5s with icloud, I think that is where some of the trouble is. I also don't use iTunes Match. 😕

Yeah the same happens to me too. I am driving myself mad over it...

I do NOT use itunes match.

My library is perfect, some songs entered thru cds others purchased direclty from itunes. My ipods work just fine (all songs are where they should be, no duplicates, artwork exactly as chosen).

When I sync my ipad air or my iphones5S wityh itunes... well another story:

- Some albums show twice. You enter an album and all songs including artwork are doubled!!!

- Some albums show artwork which is totally wierd... Not the one I have chosen and not the one currently listing in my itunes library

- Some albums or artists are not there

- A month ago (i think when the last ios update took place) some albums only showed the icloud icon next to them but when tried to download them nothing happened

I usually sync my iphone and ipad with icloud but also sync with itunes for the music since I do not use itunes match. I have tried to delete all music from the device and resync with itunes but i get the same problem with the duplicates and the artwork...

I will try to do this again with the toggle 'Show All Music' in the off position (previously was on) and see what happens...

Nonetheless this is taking toooooo long to get fixed

Hi guys,

I've just been swearing at my pc and my phone with regards to this. Just to confirm, I had songs available to download from iCloud duplicating up with the songs that I synced using iTunes. The following steps is what I have just done to resolve this for me - so I hope it resolves it for you guys too!

Go to Settings

Go to Music

Disable "Show All Music"

When "Show All Music" is enabled, quote "All music that has been downloaded or that is stored in iCloud will be shown."

When it is disabled, quote "Only music that has been downloaded to this device will be shown."

I hope this helps! I guess this means you would need to enable this to then download a track over wireless/from iCloud and then re-disable it? ..

Thanks!

I'm very surprised that Apple has done nothing on fixing the bug for the chargable service.

From what I've read a lot of users faced the problem of duplicating songs in the iPhone (iTunes Match is turned on) after sync with iTunes.

Turning iTunes Match off and on helps...BUT ONLY TILL THE NEXT SYNC.

I have Retina MacBook Pro and iPhone 5 (all with the latest software updates) and I have to turn iTunes Match in iPhone off & on after each sync with my mac.

I don't agree with Disable "Show All Music" option. As it just hides the problem. And I sometimes need to see all the music in order to force the download of a song added to the iTunes recently.

So I had this problem with my 4S and solved it after reviewing all of your suggestions. By the way, I have an iPhone 4S, and do not use iTunes match.

I followed the advice of deleting all of my songs from iPhone via deselecting "Sync Music" in iTunes, however the duplicated songs were still on my iPhone. So I had no songs synced, but somehow there were 28 songs on my iPhone still. So what I did was backup my iPhone after deleting all of the music, and then restored my iPhone. After restoring my iPhone completely (it was like a brand new phone), I restored it using the backup with no music. All I did after that was recheck "Sync Music" in iTunes and after the music was back on my phone, no duplicates.

Hope it works for you guys, and hopefully it is permanent. This is great because it gives you your space back on your iPhone that was originally used for duplicates!
