I guess I'm not alone. I just switched from Android to IOS7 ONLY because I wanted a smaller phone. The first time I looked at the call screen my next step is to search for a solution. Seems there is none and apparently Apple is not looking.

IOS7 may have some good feature but so far the bad way outway the good. Hate the calendar function and had to buy one to even come close to the Android offering. No speed dial on a $700 plus phone? Why apple? And yes the dial screen is really really ugly to the point it is irritating to my eyes. My wife just got a Samsung Galaxy S4 and I switche from a Galaxy S3 to the Iphone 5S. Everyone raves about the Iphone but I don't see it yet!

Apple wake up and listen to your users.

Why do you need speed dial when you can simply access your Contacts (or even recent calls in the Phone App), and simply make a call that way?

Speed dial is not needed on the iPhone. You can add Favorites to your Phone app, and then make quick calls that way.

It's literally three taps.

Phone > Favorites > Choose the contact. The call will begin. Any 'speed dial' would require at least as many taps.

Just replace the word 'Favorites' with 'Speed Dial', and you'll be fine. This is simply a matter of you not understanding how to operate your device. I suggest reading the user manual: http://support.apple.com/manuals#iphone

In case you have not had an android phone the process is Phone>push button vs Phone>favorites>select favorite. so is actually one more step. I would asume if you wanted contact number 48 in your favorites list you would have to scroll down to the one you want. Yes you can re-order the list if that is what you have to do. To messy!

This is not much of a problem unless you are driving your car then the two step process to me is perferred.

The new andriod phones offer both favorites as well as speed dial so I'm suprised my very expensive 5S leaves this function out. I'm not the only one who wonders why apple does not offer a speed dial function.

As far as reading the users manual the "Speed dial " function seems to be missing so not sure why reading it has any bearing.

I see comments from apple owners trying to justify why you don't need speed dial. The question for me is why doesn't apple add this simple feature and let the owner decide how he wants to make a quick call?

Based on the other replies, seems there is no way to switch back to the previous iOS "default" color scheme...HOWEVER, I found that when I change my HOME SCREEN & WALL PAPER background to different photos from my library, the icons and folders on the home screen change colors accordingly. Not sure the colors auto-chosen by iOS are great, but you can experiment with various photos and hopefully find something better than the default.

Chris - this is indeed a technical issue. It seriously affects the functionality of the phone. And it needs a technical fix. The new design is very hard on many people's eyes due to the garish colors and poorly legible fonts. I find it all so awful and non-functional that for the first time, I'm looking at jailbreaking options in case I ever have to leave iOS 6. I never felt this way before about any Apple product. Windows design has often been off (their color scheme just hasn't worked as well), but Apple has always been easy on the eyes until iOS 7. I've been using macs since 1990.

This is really useful information - it helped fixed my problem.

I had a photo of a black dog on a white rug as my wallpaper, and the text was white.

"Reversing" the colours, gave me a white dog on a black rug. [No Apple! Bad Apple!]

Now I've got one of the standard grey backgrounds, black text I can read, and my dog lives on the lock screen.

[I have to agree - It would be far, far better to have an option that allows you to force the text colour to something visible.]

To a limited degree, you can change the color scheme. I've struggled with the flash bulb colors of IOS7 too. The bright pastels and thin font were bugging my eyes and usabilty slipped. I liked the look and feel of IOS6 so much better. Anyhow, you can tone things down in IOS7 by doing the following:

Settings>General>Accessibility>Increase Contrast

Reduce Transparency - ON

Darken Colors - ON

Taking it a step further (closer to IOS6):

Settings>General>Accessibility>

Reduce Motion - ON

Bold Text - ON

Button Shapes - ON

On/Off Labels - ON

HELP! I just downgraded to iOS 7 (because otherwise I could not use a bunch of apps, so congratulations Apple, you win for forcing me to "upgrade"). I can tolerate most of it, but the color scheme is awful. How do I change the grey scale so I get orange instead of melon? And green instead of lime? I tried every hac-tic I could find on this thread, and it still looks like ****.

Seriously, it is so bad that I'm contemplating switching to anything else, or paying someone to uninstall the iOS or whatever other options I might have. Android? My phone has never made me want to cry before, but the colors make it so hard to see. I would have give up every app I have if I'd known it was going to inflict this on me.
I tried everything on the Apple users forum to make it suck less, and then replaced the wallpaper with the blackest wallpaper I could find via Apple, to increase the contrast. This does not fix the colors, but makes it a little less like I want to vomit or cry or throw the phone across the room. If I could get rid of the little numbered circles with the notifications, that would help. I also wrote a complaint to Apple (I appear to be in good company).

Which did you actually do, attempt to downgrade to something, or upgrade to the latest iOS? As far as the apps go, that is determined by the app developer, not Apple. If they require iOS 7, then you can complain to the app developer. Changing the color theme is not possible.

Removing the "little numbered circles" which are commonly known as Badge App icon, can be turned off or adjusted in Settings>Notification Center and select the particular app you want to remove the badge app from.

Hope this helps with your questions.

The only way to change the color scheme is to change your background and wallpaper till you find a color you can tolerate. BUT with that said I am not able to use my chosen background because of the color scheme it brings to the rest of the phone. I don't think I should have to choose another picture because the one I want to use is not color compatible. Also, inverting the colors does not work for everyone. Absolutely ridiculous that the consumer can not choose a color scheme for themselves!!!!! Note: If it was not for the consumers, Apple would not even be around since it is the consumers money that makes Apple the company it is today. I hope the newly released iOS 8 fixes the issue with the color scheme.
