I'll try that next. "Unknown" is what shows up when the call comes in. But when I got to "Recents" it shows "Unknown" on the number list, then "Unknown Caller" when you hit "info." I cut and pasted that. I tried it with a blocked caller ID yesterday (*67 from my landline) and couldn't work out a way to have it block the *67'd phone call. I'll try creating another contact for Unknown and see what happens.

Just switched to an iPhone 5C from a Galaxy. Really excited, but now a little bummed to find out the blocking option doesn't exist. How can this be Apple?

With an app called Call Blocker on the droid - you could choose to put blocked calls, no id call, unknown calls, restricted and specific numbers direct to voicemail or have the phone automatically pick up and hang up. This was genius as I have a ton of solicitors calling me daily.

I'm going to try the pasting "UNKNOWN" into my contacts route and see if that works. Update to follow...

Yeah, trapcall doesn't just generically dump unknown numbers to voicemail or block them. What it does is actually tell you the number of the blocked call (don't know how it works with "Unknown" numbers)...which is cool. But most of us just want to block or send the "Unknown" or "Blocked" numbers to voice mail. Seems like it should be a far simpler solution, but apparently not possible at this time for whatever reason.

Well that's what I thought but everyone was telling me just do this but obviously that does not work. I have iso 7. if it triggers unknown or no caller id then there should be someone out there to make an app to divert the call or just hang up. Or force the caller to show his number so one could block it.

Either update to iOS 7 or contact your carrier and find out what options they offer. NO

Give Ronj218 a break. The technology obviously exists because it's a built-in option on Android phones. It's really maddening to be getting these calls because there seems to be _nothing_ you can do without paying extra - and in the case of Verizon, it's not at all clear that the extra service will actually do this. The sad thing is that it's illegal to make robocalls with caller ID blocked, so the Telecoms should be helping catch these lawbreakers instead of making money off of an illegal activity.

Thanks DPD1969 I wish I knew enough to make an app I would. I stopped in and asked my AT&T store they said no they couldn't block those.

We're sorry, but at this time Smart Limits service cannot be used to block inbound calls and messages received from anonymous or unknown callers.

from the AT&T website. Calls and texts from anonymous or unknown numbers

So there it is anyone with an apple IPhone is screwed you can't block an unknown caller, No caller ID, Unknown regardless of what anyone says here. It doesn't help to put in NoCallerID or Unknown caller in the phone area I think I proved that in a previous reply I did with pictures. So lets put this to rest. As far as this date it cannot be done, by an app or by AT&T carrier PERIOD. So all you know-it-alls can stuff it because as of this date it cannot be done no matter what you do. So all of these helpful hints all they do is take up space on your phone.

Thanks for all your ideas but they make as much sense as me going to a crack dealer for an energy drink.
