I'm pretty sure, as I said above, that there is no easy third-party way of doing this. I only dabble in programming, but I've played around with the iOS SDK and, as far as I can tell, there's no access to that part of the OS. You can't access voicemail, call forwarding, any of that kind of stuff from the official SDK. I'm also not sure there is a way to have an app sitting in the background constantly and intercepting phones and doing anything programmatically with them. The app will be aware of when a phone call comes in, but the Apple SDK does not allow access to get what that phone number is from an incoming call for security reasons.

So far as I can tell, this sort of feature would have to be integrated with the OS or it would be some sort of non-official program for jailbroken iPhones. If you're waiting for something to show up in the app store, I think you'll be waiting a mighty long time. Conceptually, the app is straightforward. If there were an approved way of getting it done, you bet it'd be in the app store by now, making the programmer some decent cash.

Thanks Peter Pawinski I appreciate it I was considering buying a Mac paying for some education and then purchasing the program to make an app then there are some other costs, I'm glad you chimed in, I wondered why no one ever put up an app now I see why, they have some that are close but nothing one can do with the way the cell phone works by using the block feature. Yeah if you can't access that part of the os that *****. Hopefully Apple with get their **** together and come up with something like the android. I'm alot of people have this problem. Thanks again for shedding some light on this topic.

I just posted the following to Apple Feedback so it will be interested to see whether they care at all or will just ignore it:

"This is the subject of much discussion from thousands and probably millions of iPhone users who are suffering calls from telemarketers which are often a form of harassment for older people.

Android provides a blocking feature but Apple has clearly chosen not to do this and is now losing customers to Android. I will be one of them unless Apple addresses this issue in the next few weeks - even if it is to announce the inclusion of the feature in the next release of IOS.

It seems it may have been present in an earlier version of IOS 7 then removed (?) which sounds like pandering to telemarketers instead of Apple customers.

Please respond to indicate Apple's official position on this."

I hate to state the obvious, but Apple is not going to listen to somebody who says that they need to change it or people are going to start switching to Android, when you say you're thinking about it, and even if they do change it, you'll switch anyway. They have nothing to lose if you're already going to switch. the goal for Apple would be to try to keep customers, not change for people who are going to just switch anyway, regardless of what they do. from a business standpoint, if you're saying change it, but I'm going to switch no matter what you do, your feedback is going to be ignored.

Ok, I'll keep this short and regardless of any follow ups this is my last input as I'm not one of those who spends their lives in these forums:

1 re-read the msg as I didn't say I would DEFINITELY leave - I only suggested if they didn'tUnknown Caller

at least respond within weeks to indicate some intended change, I'd leave. I'm an Apple fan but this issues is bigger than technology - it's about privacy

2 don't think apple will respond for one individual however they must be aware of general user feelings on this and I just wanted to add my voice to the many, otherwise I have no right to complain (like those who don't vote)

That's it from me - knock yourself out.

I shall now consider myself knocked out, while you make your mind up.
