How do I "journal" my new external hard drive?
iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.11)
Do you actually mean "journal" and not format?
Hoow is the hard drive currently formatted?

It says MS-DOS Fat 32, or something like that. I have been told to set it to extended( journaled)
I can get into the utility disk, then I'm stuck. I tried a few things, but the icon is not showing up on my desktop now.

Remember that reformat will wipe out all data on the disk drive. So backup any data you wish to keep first.

I suspected that it was new but I always feel better suggesting a backup before a reformat just in case.
